    The Crocodile Hunter Retires

On Sunday it was announced that former ISU linebacker Steven "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin would be stepping away from football for good. "I've had a good time playing in the NFL, I would like to thank the Tennessee Titans for giving me a chance to play and live my dream as becoming a pro football player." Steve Irwin graduated from Iowa State in 2017 having the greatest defensive career in Iowa State history, he holds the current school record for most tackles in a career with 165 and most tackles in a single game with 16 in his first year. "I was ruthless on the field" Irwin said, "Whenever someone calls the the 'Crocodile Hunter' I have to live up to that name and play my best football everyday so I do not let people down." After his 4th season at Iowa State he was signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent. "I never thought I would be given the chance to prove myself, I came out as an undrafted linebacker not many teams are looking to start an undrafted free agent and be happy with the results." The crocodile hunter then packed his bags to Tennessee saying his adjustment to the Nashville area was "Uplifting, feeling and smelling that high elevation air puts a lot of air in your lungs. Coming from the flatness of Iowa I liked the change in scenery." His career was about average for an undrafted free agent he recorded 12 tackles in 2 games his first season, things were looking up for the Crocodile Hunter until the next season when he didnt see a single play. When asked about how he felt about being benched he said "There is not much I can do. I put on a good face and play when I am needed to play, I step up and rise up to the occasion when given the chance." After the 2021 season he was released and then became a free agent this past year. Irwin just like in his NFL career sitting and waiting for someone to call upon him when he wanted to still be a part of a team. "During this past season sitting in free agency gave me a lot of time to think. I have lived in Tennessee for the past 4 years of my life, I have volunteered in this community I have grown to be a part of the Nashville life. I have a family now and I cant move around when I am already settled in a place I call home. I felt it was in the best interested of me and my family that I put football aside and start focusing on my community work and helping grow my family." Steve Irwin still responds to fans who call him the crocodile hunter with a big white smile and offers to give signatures to whomever asks for one. "Seeing people that I have inspired is the greatest hunt of them all." He says happily.

With the new version of Pathfinder being recently released for playtesting, I'm interested in running a one session game with members of the site! In the past there have been two long-running Pathfinder campaigns with members of the site that have been a lot of fun! For those who don't know, Pathfinder is a dice-based tabletop roleplaying game originally based on Dungeons and Dragons version 3.5. From 2011 until the 2014 premiere of D&D 5th edition, Pathfinder was the #1 selling role playing game in the world, despite all of its material also being available for free online. The basic idea is that I tell an interactive story, set in a fantasy universe, in which y'all participate by using characters you've created. Y'all tell me what decisions you make and actions you want to take and I tell you the results based on what is going on and die rolls, which introduce the element of chance. Just the other day, the playtest material for Pathfinder 2.0 was released for free. Again, I want to run a session to check things out and I'd like to see if any users on the site want to try it out! Even if you've never played D&D, Pathfinder, Shadowrun, or any other RPGs, this is a great time to try it out! Since this is a new system, even veteran players like myself will be figuring things out a bit. The best part is that you can play for ABSOLUTELY FREE. All you need to do is go to this website and make a free account. After you do and you get to this screen, click "Download Rulebook", NOT "Download All". Again, that website is http://paizo.com/pathfinderplaytest. If you're interested, please post in this thread and we'll talk via PM, Discord, etc. Sessions get awkward if there are too many people, so I won't take more than 4-5 players. However, if enough people are interested that we can have a second group, I'd be happy to run another session at a future date. We'll be playing by using voice chat on the CFBHC Discord on Sunday, August 19th at 7pm EST. Its best for sound quality if you have a mike or headset, but that isn't strictly required. No worries you're confused by the rules or if you're having trouble making a character! I'll be available for questions and in the evenings on Discord if you need help with anything before the game. My primary job with this is to make sure everyone is having fun! Tentative Session Schedule (may be altered or members swapped for scheduling reasons, etc.): Session #1 (August 25th, 6:30PM EST) @Dacder @cmcgill @alienufo @Jamarquan Session #2 (TBA) @ObliviousLAX @Jumanji*** @TuscanSota @vollmagnet @sleuthofbears @rabidsnowman @deandean1998 ***depends on schedule

Free Agency has finally opened for the 2022 season, and although no one has officially signed, there is plenty of news to go through. QB Norris Brooksheer The former #1 Pick was released by the Chicago Bears following the conclusion of his rookie contract. There was interest in him almost as soon as Free Agency started. Early reports are that Pittsburgh and Arizona contacted him and a quick bidding war started. Our sources inside the Steelers Organization say the latest offer is for 3 years, 56.75 MM with 91.19 % Guaranteed. The terms of the deal are still hazy, but it looks to be 24+ MM in both the first and second year before dipping below 10 MM for the 3rd. That 3rd year is definitely the team's way of getting out of a potential bad situation. QB Reggie Watkins Reggie walked away from the Patriots because he felt their offer was too low, but we're hearing the Pats are the only one who have rang his phone so far. Their deal appears to be the same, but it looks much more likely that Watkins will sign this time. We haven't heard any rumors of any other team showing interest in him, so Reggie might be headed back to New England after all. QB Paul Davenport Surprisingly, the Jags were the first team to offer Paul Davenport a contract. Reports are the deal was for 2 years, 22 MM with 72.73 % Guaranteed. A far cry from what the Giants had offered him before the season. After they were outbid on Brooksheer, Arizona's eyes fell to Davenport as they are rumored to have offered him a deal in the vicinity of 2 years 22.5 MM. They seem keen on signing Davenport, as they traded Rory Weston for Rob Corp. QB Taylor Rodriguez The most surprising QB news so far is that Tay Rod hasn't gotten a single offer according to someone close to him. He is being seen as the next tier down of the available Quarterbacks and might have to wait until after the draft to get a deal. A QB hungry team would do well to call Tay Rod's agent ASAP. RB Vaughan Abraham The league's All-Time leading rusher seems destined for the NFC North. The current contenders are Minnesota and Chicago. Abraham had stated he wanted to play for a title contender, but it appears these two bottom dwellers have become his favorites. The offers have gone back and forth all day, and we're hearing the latest offer comes from Chicago at 3 years, 34.5 MM and 71% Guaranteed. Both offenses would see a significant improvement, but Chicago especially would as they are going to start Moahammed Foster next season. RB Chad Dess Dess hasn't always had the spotlight on him, but he's been a very productive back. First for Green Bay, then Buffalo, the Rams, and now it appears the Texans. Arturo Pacheco has been nothing short of disappointing in his tenure with Houston, and the Texans look to move on. The Texans have quite a few issues, and the running game was certainly one. Pairing Dess with the young, but rising, Leshoure could be a recipe for success. The deal is in the range of 2 years, 15 MM. WR Greg Cobb The Chargers and the Giants seem hell bent on spending half their cap on Cobb. Both teams have a desperate need for a true #1 Receiver, and they are both looking to Mr. Cobb to fill that role. Our reports are that the Giants currently own the highest offer at 4 years, 66 MM with around 85% Guaranteed. The Chargers are definitely not out of it, but they are currently behind. DT Bob Ballard Once again the Texans come up. They are fighting the Jags for the services of the former Jet. Both teams really need a DT, and Ballard is probably the bets one on the market. Both teams have been going at it all day, but the Jags are rumored to be leading with a deal around 4 years, 44 MM. The Texans could easily hop back in, but might be waiting for Dess to sign first before doing so. DT Malik Dawson The Giants came out and swung hard. Their initial offer was almost accepted as it was said to be 4 years, 45 MM with 89% Guaranteed. Dawson wanted a little more time to think and then the Washington Football Team swooped in and upped the bid. We're hearing the Giants are back on top with a deal around 4 years, 38.5 MM and 85% Guaranteed. Why Dawson would take that deal over the initial one is beyond me.

    Rein-Viger-ated

August 6th, Michigan State prepares for the upcoming season at the Skandalaris Football Center on an early August morning. Redshirt Sophomore Quarterback Isaac Tyson fires a pass over the head of Junior Receiver Benjamin Serna as whistles blow. "Isaac! Keep those feet planted, we've been over this!" Tyson shakes his head in disgust with himself as Michigan State's QB Coach, Bobby Viger, walks over to speak with his young QB. You may remember Bobby Viger from the earlier Michigan State football teams where as QB, he led the Spartans to an improbable 12-1 record and a bowl win in 2014. Following that season, Viger headed to the NFL where he was signed as a UDFA by the Green Bay Packers. Viger spent 2 years there as a backup but never managed to see the field. In 2017, Viger was not resigned by the Packers and became a free agent. He was then signed by the Buffalo Bills but unfortunately let go before the start of the season. He then ended up on the New York Jets, where he spent one season and only made one appearance. Going 8 for 17 for 88 yards, no tds, no ints. Before the 2018 NFLHC season, Viger decided to retire from the New York Jets, and football, following an uneventful NFL career. "I knew I was never going to be a star QB in the NFL and I was okay with that," said Viger, "but when I realized my career was basically going to be me moving from team to team, not knowing whether or not I would even be on the roster the following morning, I knew I didn't want to live that kind of life. I knew it was time for the next chapter." Following retirement, Bobby went to graduate school and worked as an Offensive GA for the Grand Valley St. Lakers. Trying to learn all he could about coaching football. "I spent a lot of long nights with Coach, watching film, picking his brain, just trying to absorb all I could because even if maybe I couldn't play football anymore, I wasn't ready to give it up." After two years, Viger graduated from Grand Valley State, and got the call he had been waiting for. "I hadn't even gotten home from graduation yet when my phone rang with a familiar number. At first, I didn't really think anything of it, because we had kept in touch and I figured he was calling to congratulate me. So you know, I answered it and said hello." On the other end of the line was Bobby's former Head Coach at MSU, SlinkyJr. The previous year, Coach Slinky had announced he would be resigning from his duties at MSU, wanting to focus on his personal life. Just a year later, Slinky ended up returning to take the reigns back with the Spartans. "I'll never forget what he said. He didn't congratulate me, didn't ask me how I was doing, he just said: Bobby, you're needed back home, I expect you here tomorrow. I wasn't sure exactly what that meant, but I wasn't going to miss this opportunity so I went home, packed some bags, and drove to East Lansing. When Viger arrived on campus, SlinkyJr explained that he wanted him to be MSU's new QB coach and help the Spartan's star, Kyle Davidson develop into an NFL caliber player. Viger accepted the offer and took the next step in his new journey. "I was extremely excited to be back in East Lansing working directly with Coach Slinky, he's a guy that truly cares about his players and someone I respect a lot. Plus, getting to work with a player like Kyle Davidson was exactly what I was looking for." Kyle Davidson came to MSU essentially labeled as the Savior for the Spartans. He was thrust into the starting role as a Freshman and struggled, but began showing signs of his talent at the end of his Sophomore year. "Kyle has the talent to be one of the best QB's out there, I think he struggled sometimes with his confidence, having gone through such an up an down career with all of the coaching change stuff and maybe some less than stellar talent around him, but he's a guy that just got it. He was always down to study film with me, and was constantly asking for advice. Asking what I'd do in this situation or that situation. To the point I had to remind him that I didn't have his kind of talent when I was playing, what I did might not work for him and he had to find his own groove. I was there to help with the mental stuff, but he was already miles ahead of me in the physical department." This upcoming season, the green and white faithful have more to be excited about in the QB department with the reports being that it'll be Isaac Tyson taking the helm this season. A highly touted QB recruit from North Dakota, Tyson brings athleticism to the position that hasn't really been seen at Michigan State in a long time. "We had a rough season last year, but I think there's a lot to be excited about. We've brought in some playmakers like that kid at WR, Metz, and I really believe that Tyson has the chance to be one of the greats here at MSU. He's got a tough act to follow, but he's a guy who has that extra dynamic to his game that could really make a difference." We asked Bobby if he had any regrets about his career and this is what he had to say: "Regrets? No, not really. Look, I played the heck out of this game. I gave my all every time I was out there. Could I probably have lasted a couple more years in the NFL? Sure, but I wasn't enjoying football anymore. I'm a competitor, I didn't enjoy sitting third on the depth chart. 3rd String QB has his role, and can help the team but only to a certain extent you know? Coaching has given me a second wind. I feel like I am making a difference again. One day I hope I can climb the ladder and be head ball coach of my own team, giving a guy like myself the chance the way Coach Slinky has for me. But that is a long way away. Right now, I'm just looking forward to the next day. And loving every second of it."
