  1. Week 3 in the B1G has 10 teams in action including the first in-conference games of the season. B1G Game of the Week: Michigan (1-1) at Rutgers (2-0)* (+19.5) Rutgers is off to a great start on the season but will face a different level of competition as the Wolverines come to town on Saturday. Rutgers has looked impressive in their 2 wins outscoring their opponents 69-19. Their offensive line will need to protect Freshman QB Omari Ricks-Hargrove against a talented Michigan defensive line if the offense is to continue its early success. Michigan got their first win vs Vandy last week and will look to carry that momentum into New Jersey. The Wolverines have plenty of talent at the skill positions and the offense will look to have success against the Scarlet Knights defense. Rutgers has talent...but Michigan has more. Expect the Wolverines to win by 2 scores. Prediction: Michigan 31 Rugters 20 Conference Game: Wisconsin (0-2) at Maryland (1-0)* (-9.0) Maryland is expected to compete for the B1G East and would love to start conference play with a win over the Badgers. Wisconsin is looking to get their first win after losses to 2 quality teams. Expect the Terps offense to outplay the Badgers offense and get the win. Prediction: Maryland 23 Wisconsin 17 Rivalry Game: #20 Penn State (0-1) at Pittsburgh (1-0) (+4.5) Penn State is coming off 2 bye weeks and looking to get their first win in Pittsburgh against the Panthers. The Nittany Lions lost a close game to top-ranked TCU while Pitt’s win came against Temple. Both teams have solid run games and defenses. Give Penn State the slight advantage with their passing game. Prediction: Penn State 27 Pittsburgh 24 Best of the Rest: Illinois (1-0) at Virginia (2-0) (+2.0) Illinois and Virginia both quality teams looking to break into the top 25. Virginia has the home field advantage but Illinois has the advantage in the trenches and pulls off a close win. Prediction: Illinois 28 Virginia 27 Central Michigan (0-1) at Michigan State (0-1) (-8.5) - The Spartans came up short against LSU last week and now face Chippewas from up north. Central Michigan is no push over but expect Sparty to get their first win of the season by 10. UCF (1-1) at Nebraska (0-2) (+8.5) - The Cornhuskers face another quality team as UCF comes to Lincoln. The defense is going to need to play better to get their first win. Unfortunately this is not that week. UCF by a touchdown. Georgia Southern (1-0) at Minnesota (1-0) (-27.5) - The Gophers should be tested by the Eagles from the Sunbelt. But look for Minnesota to pull away in the second half and set up an intriguing matchup with Northwestern next week. Youngstown State (0-1) at Northwestern (1-0) (N/A) - Another FCS opponent for the Wildcats. They should be able to use this as a tune up before their B1G season opener next week against Minnesota. On Bye: Indiana (2-0), Ohio State (2-0), Iowa (2-0), Purdue (2-0)
  2. He played well so that was a good call on your part. That game could have gone either way.
  3. We are certainly going to try. Last year's performance has hurt some of our recruiting efforts for this season so we need to make it up with wins this year.
  4. In the annual Cy-Hawk game the Hawkeyes were able to hold off the Cyclones for a 27-24 victory. Coach wrigleyfan spoke to the media today. Offensive takeaways from Week 2 - Well we did just enough to get the job done this week against a tough Cyclone defense. The offensive line stepped up again and gave RB Kedaveon Vaughn a chance to make some plays and get into the endzone twice. That really helped take the pressure of QB Ryan Corbin who played pretty well in his first rivalry game. And how about our kicker Mayer Abbrederis making both his field goals. That was an area we struggled with last year but so far Mayer is doing a great job converting on all of his attempts. Defensive takeaways from Week 2 - Our focus was on stopping their running attack and we did a good job keeping McCullough in check. DE Joe Hanley continues to get into the backfield and disrupt plays and it was nice to see another freshman CB Marcedes Payton stepping up this week and contributing with an interception. But we need to do a better job against the pass if we are going to continue to have success this season. Focus heading into the Bye in Week 3 - This is definitely a big win for us and gives as many wins as we had all last season so we are all excited for our players and our fans. But it only gets tougher as we move into conference play in week 4. We will continue to get our young players reps and work on improving our execution on both sides of the ball and hope we can carry this momentum on the road against a very good Penn State team.
  5. Not expecting this to last too long...but it will be nice while it lasts
  6. GG @Minnowsotan about as even a match up as you can get.
  7. Week 2 in the B1G has 10 teams in action including a few interesitng SEC-B1G matchups. Featured game - #4 LSU (0-0) at Michigan State (0-0) (+8.5) Both LSU and Michigan State kick of their 2023 seasons Saturday night in East Lansing. The Tigers come in ranked #4 in the latest poll and have one of the top defenses in the nation. Michigan State will need QB Isaac Tyson to play his best to have any chance of putting up some points on the LSU defense. The other matchup to watch is the LSU offensive line vs the Spartans defensive line. Both have talent and whoever can control the trenches will go a long way in deciding the outcome of this game. Prediction: LSU 20 Michigan St 10 Rivalry games - Indiana (1-0) at Kentucky (0-1) (-2); Iowa State (1-0) at Iowa (1-0) (E) There are two rivalry games worth watching this weekend. First Indiana will cross the border to take on Kentucky. Kentucky lost their Week 1 home opener in a close game vs Toledo while Indiana won their season home opener easily over Texas State. This looks to be a close game with turnovers likely to play a deciding role. Prediction: Indiana 31 Kentucky 27 Iowa State and Iowa will also meet this week in the annual Cy-Hawk rivalry game. Both teams are coming off wins in week 1 and this looks to be a very competitive game. The key to this matchup will likely be who can contain the other team’s offense and who can win on third down and turnovers Prediction: Iowa 24 Iowa State 23 Other games of interest: Akron (1-0) at #16 Ohio State (1-0) (-24) - the top ranked team in the B1G hosts in-state Akron. Expect the Buckeyes to roll in this one. Florida International (0-1) at Illinois (0-0) (-18) - Season opener for Illinois. A win will push them closer to breaking into the Top 25. San Diego State (0-1) at Wisconsin (0-1) (+11.5) - Both teams looking looking to bounce back from loses. Wisconsin will need a big performance from their defense to have a chance in this one. Vanderbilt (1-0) at Michigan (0-1) (-11) - The Wolverines are back in action after having a bye last week and are looking for their first victory of the season - which we expect them to get. Miami (OH) (0-1) at Rutgers (1-0) (-8.5) - Can the Scarlet Knights start the season 2-0? Our magic 8 ball says “Signs point to yes”. And the rest: Delaware (1-0) at Purdue (1-0) - Delaware is no push over so Purdue better come ready to play - which we totally expect they will. North Dakota (1-0) at Northwestern (0-0) - Opener for Northwestern vs a FCS opponent. Expect the Wildcats to start the season with a W. On Bye: Maryland (1-0), Penn State (0-1), Minnesota (1-0), Nebraska (0-2)
  8. On offense we may have a slight advantage on the edges with our receivers and with our offensive line if they can perform at the same level as we did in week 1. On defense I'm not sure there is anything to exploit but we will need to slow down the running game and try to make them more one dimensional.
  9. We did attend the Bill Belichick class on scouting your opponents. But I'm too old to be climbing trees anymore....that's what the grad assistants are for
  10. It's always better when it is competitive.
  11. WEEK 1 RESULT - IOWA CELEBRATES VICTORY IN SEASON OPENER VS WESTERN KENTUCKY 31-21. Offensive takeaways from Week 1 win vs Western Kentucky - We are very pleased with how our players competed on both sides of the ball and we are happy to get the win vs a very good Western Kentucky team. The offensive line stepped up and gave our skill players a chance to make plays. QB Ryan Corbin made good decisions and took care of the ball well in his first start and we are excited to see him improve as the season progresses. Defensive takeaways - We focused on stopping their running attack and we did an excellent job keeping their backs in check. We got good pressure on their QB with 3 sacks and were able to come up with a turnover. We were really impressed with freshman Ayden Brito and how he has taken over his OLB position. Focus heading into week 2 vs Iowa State - Of course the Cy-Hawk game is a big game for us and for coach @Minnowsotan and the Cyclones. Iowa State looked impressive in week 1 and they will certainly be ready for us in this week. They present a very similar challenge as Western Kentucky as they have a balanced offense with an excellent running back and a talented quarterback which makes it difficult to gameplan against them. We need everyone on our defense to step up again this week and hope we can make enough stops to slow them down. Their defense has a lot of playmakers which means we will need Corbin and our offense to execute and avoid turnovers if we expect to have a chance to win. We know it’s going to be a hard fought game and we hope we will be taking the Cy-Hawk trophy back to Iowa City.
  12. Sorry guess I missed that. I will definitely implement voting starting this week.
  13. Week #1 saw eight B1G teams in action. Here are the best performances of the week. Offense - QB Rangi Grey - Indiana 22/34 285 yards 3 TDs 0 INTs; 7 rushes 35 yards 1 TD vs Texas State Honorable mentions - QB Brian Andersen - Maryland; RB Kamar Blackman - Indiana; WR Andrew Bond - Purdue Defense - DE Matthias Delaney Jr. - Maryland 4 Tackles 2 TFL 2 Sacks Honorable mentions - ILB Shane Slade - Minnesota; DE Malachi Pickett - Minnesota; DE Landon Crowder - Purdue Special Teams - P P.K. Crowe - Indiana 50.1 ave Honorable mentions - K Zach Yarbrough - Indiana; K Logan Callaway - Maryland
  14. I can take this on. There may be some weeks I need some help but for the most part I should be able to get it done by Monday. About to post week 1 now.
  15. GG @boogyman10 Was really nervous about this game. Good luck with the rest of your season.
