[2022] Sun Belt Week 4 Recap Show

    [2022] Week #4 - SNF

    who needs defense anyways
  3. Pirate defense takes the field for the first time at home. The East Carolina Pirates are sitting in a familiar place as they open up conference play next week against Cincinnati. The Pirates opened up the 2021 season with four straight losses, including one to AAC East winner Temple. They open up however against the Bearcats, who they have the longest running win streak against at 6 games. But they did not wish to open up the first quarter of the season 0-3. They had a very good chance at opening up conference play, 2-1 as the last two games were both decided by 5 points. Despite the 0-3 start, they have looked night and day different compared to the 0-3 start last season. The offense, now lead by Kyler Wilson has been electric. Last season by this point, they were averaging 13 points a game. Through the first 3 games of the 2022 season, they average 27 points a game. Thats a two touchdown difference to start the season against some very good teams. But more importantly..and probably the best stat to look at is the turnover difference from this season and last. ECU turned it over 6 times through three games last season. Only once so far this season. And it was a game killer as it allowed CMU to come back and secure the win Friday night. Carver struggled early in the season with turnovers, and not being able to find the endzone to make up for those interceptions. Kyler Wilson on the other hand, despite being under constant pressure, and just ugly protection, has managed to put it in the end zone 8 times, with only one interception. If there is one flaw with the offense to nag at, its the lack of protection. its the lack of quality play by the offensive line. They've given up 9 sacks so far this season. Furthermore they just haven't been able to create any running lanes for transfer Amir Turner Jr. who has only managed 134 yards, and 1 touchdown on 33 attempts. When asked about the low attempts, Headcoach Weeze had a simple answer. "You can't force what isn't there." Regardless of whether or not if its there, the Pirates need to find a balance to the offense and I'm sure the coach knows it. The fans were ecstatic to get Turner to commit to East Carolina, but he has been such a non factor for such a dynamic player. The need to find a way to get him more involved. The Defense for the Pirates has been both excellent..and poor all at once. Their Freshman DE and OLB getting involved with getting to the quarterback, the linebacker unit getting involved and making tackles. Logan Bird, the Middle linebacker leads the team with 15 tackles so far on the season, as well as pass defenses with 3. He also has one tackle for loss. A disappointing stat to look at is the secondary has only one person making the stat sheet so far this Season. Jonah Epps, with 1 interception(tying his total from last season) 1 PD, and 1 tackle. He is the lone member to make the stat sheet, and that alone is a significant problem. The secondary needs to start making plays, and creating opportunities for the offense to build a lead. The defense is giving up an average of 35 points per game, 3 points higher than last season. Take away need to be key at practices and game planning. That is the quickest way to lower that number and start to increase the wins. DT Thomas Cowart 6-1 286 Fr Hoggard (Wilmington, NC) 2.5 of 4.5 [1-Gap] Week4 commit On a more positive note, recruits began committing to schools this week! ECU first crop of recruits helped the Pirates come in ranked 43rd in the country with 8 recruits committing. The most notable signing was Defensive Tackle Thomas Cowart, a 4.5* recruit from Wilmington North Carolina. the big fella will be joining his new team next year at 6-1, and 286 pounds. When talking to scouts and coaches, they raved about his big play ability. He can push the pocket back and disrupt the quarterback getting in his face. What makes him even more amazing is he should have another 4.5* DT next to him next season. Rory McLaughlin, currently red shirting, is expected to start next season as Liam Childers will be leaving. McLaughlin and Cowart both should be able to start over Justin Sprague or Nico Russ easily despite their Freshman status next season. Both are big guys and should really bring in a level of play that is just scary on defense for the AAC. But it wasn't just the DT position that got beefier, as the pirates bring in a 4.0 DE. James Stone from Southeast Raleigh high school (Raleigh, NC) to play across current starter Theo Guinn. ECU has had good relationship with Southeast Raleigh as they continue to recruit players from that highschool, and the surrounding area. Other notable recruits: PR Julius Thurman 6-3 152 Fr Laney (Wilmington, NC) 1.0 of 4.0 [Specialist] CB Zaire Boston 6-2 160 Fr Western Alamance (Elon College, NC) 2.0 of 3.5 [Zone Coverage] SS Carlos Brumfield 6-2 189 Fr Western Alamance (Elon College, NC) 1.0 of 3.5 [Man Coverage] CB Jared Patterson 6-1 174 Fr Southeast Raleigh (Raleigh, NC) 1.0 of 3.5 [Zone Coverage] WR Orlando Sterling 6-4 210 Fr Eastern Guilford (Gibsonville, NC) 1.0 of 3.5 [Target] CB Mamadou Clay 6-2 163 Fr Fleming Island (Orange Park, FL) 1.0 of 3.5 [Man Coverage]

    2018 CFB playoff prediction

i considered UCF..but i think A LOT has to happen for UCF to make it..even if they are 27-0 over two seasons..their sos, conference, and just current meme status i think makes it hard to legit say they deserve to be in it, especially over a ND or a defenseless big 12. they would be an interesting dark horse if team chaos shows up the next two weeks to really fuck things up. i think at some point they really should be given a chance..but i don't think things go well for them..
  5. Most teams only have one more game left for this season, with some big time games next weeks for potential playoff hopeful teams. New year day bowl game hopeful teams also have a lot to play for next week as well. Who do you think makes the final cut for play offs this season? My guesses: Bama Clemson Michigan Oklahoma Before someone says it, Notre Dame was left off because i think their independent status will come back to hurt them. Bama will roll Georgia imo, Clemson i think beats whoever turns out to be the coastal winner, and after the way ohio state played today...im sorry Michigan is gonna look impressive enough that they will over come their week1 loss to ND, and i feel like they will easily handle NW in a CCG(again giving them an edge over ND). Oklahoma Versus WV is gonna be huge. IMO Oklahoma losing is ND best way in. a 2 loss team is not getting in(IE LSU and WV). What teams do you think make the final cut?

    [2022] Week 3 Review

Won't lie, i've been watching them closely every game they played this season. they look good. im hoping i can sneak one past them at home though
  7. I feel like I’ve done relatively well containing Carolina the last handful of times we’ve played. But I have to agree that with the injuries, it might be hard. Skaggs should have a huge game if still can’t make it this week(pls). We’re really gonna have to rely on Heiden to pick apart that defense and for DNJ to set up the 2nd/3rd and easy. Maintaining possession will be the real key this week We should make a punting change this week. Rabid and I talked about it last week but it was too late to make a change then
  8. Hopefully we can turn things around..these injuries are killing me. Down to a boarderline practice squad DE(and if he goes down than we’ll only have 1 on the team), using a FS at corner if still can’t go, lost my ss early. If we are too turn things around, my offense has to become something it’s not..a high powered unit that milks the clock.
