  1. @smackemz On a related note, I had been working on a lot of database-style tracking of players histories and collecting all relevant information in one place to try and see if I could find some good causal relationships. Link to that work is here: if anybody wants to follow-up with that and it’s easier than starting from scratch.
  2. Yep. Anxious to see how this goes.
  3. I've had this spreadsheet sitting on my computer for a while, with nothing upcoming I figured I'd give a link in case anybody wanted to peruse for memories, enjoy https://drive.google.com/file/d/15psQItOpNSlfFRAhfWhrvt8fsTuU96Or/view?usp=sharing

  8. Iberico Founded: 1899 Form of Government: Monarchy Leaders: Don Diego de la Vega Capital: Lisbon Formation - After the conclusion of the Spanish-American War, the Spanish empire was crumbling. Losing all of their overseas possessions, the focus of the nation turned inwards. However, this was not necessarily an economic blow. With the repatriation of investment and capital from overseas, along with the $20 million payment from the treaty of Paris, there was a boom in domestic industry. Politically however, Spain exploded in discontent. King Alfonso abdicated the throne and the country was thrown into disarray. Portuguese King Carlos II saw an opportunity, and discreetly sponsored one of the younger members of the royal family with a claim to the throne. The immensely popular Don Diego de la Vega was sent throughout the Spanish countryside rallying personal support. With the financial backing of the Portuguese throne, he was able to create a dominant cult of personality and become the pre-eminent voice in Spanish politics. The back half of 1898 saw cities engaged in intense political debates as to the direction of the country, and to a larger extent the empire. With such a fragmented political discourse, Don Diego de la Vega (under his populist mononym Zorro) managed to create and lead a political party that began taking control in most major cities. In the ensuing months, he led many open debates and penned numerous essays as to how the country could re-capture it's former glory (although most of these essays had been penned by authors paid by the Portuguese). After a time, he led several of the leading cities into their own elections which his party won. With this groundswell of support, a new constitutional convention was called to try and re-formulate the direction for the country. However, after a period of months in which no solutions could be agreed on, Zorro came out with a bold plan: a union with Portugal. Drawing upon the desire for lost prestige, and reminiscent of the old merger between Aragon and Castile, he revealed a "secret", his claim to the Portuguese throne. Surprising everyone, King Carlos of Portugal was also in favor of this plan. While many in Spain had their doubts, Zorro's previous machinations had won him enough support to tip the popular favor slightly in his direction. June 2, 1899 marked the official founding of Iberico. Following their loss in the Franco-Prussian war, France had undergone their own period of turmoil, with the Third Republic dissolving towards the end of the century. The southern half consisted of two dominant territories, Greater Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrenees-Languedoc (MPL). MPL had gone in the direction of a localized republic made up of 12 smaller states and an extremely weak federal system. The area around Toulouse had begun to grumble about the direction of the government and with military threat from the northern provinces decided to try and join Iberico as a favored state with twice the proportional representation in the nascent parliament, a fact that slightly rankled the rest of the Spanish states when they were admitted in late November, 1899. As it stands now politically, Iberico is a conditional monarchy. As is traditional, Zorro's infant son is the heir to the throne. However, as a twist to satisfy the liberals in Spain, there would be a nation-wide referendum every 7 years. At that point, there was a simple choice: support or denounce the current monarch. Any vote that had a 2/3 majority denouncement would trigger a transfer of power from the monarch to parliament upon which a constitutional convention would be held to hammer out a new form of government. Parliament was a unicameral institution, with each internal state in Iberico represented based on their population (with a floor of 1 member). Every 500,000 citizens added an extra member for that state, although with the size discrepancies, states under former Portuguese rule gained 1 member per 200,000 citizens, and MPL gained 1 member per 250,000 citizens. This Parliament was in charge of responsibilities delegated by King Zorro (country-wide currency regulation, postal service, electrification standards, etc..). Additionally, each state had their own system of government voted on by their locale, subject only to rule of the King and federal standards from Parliament. Zorro was a capable ruler, with great assistance from Carlos II and his staff. As previously mentioned, the influx of Capital into Spain proper had led to an industrial boom. Both nations had a strong previous naval tradition, and with fewer colonies to maintain and fund, could now focus on setting the standard for naval innovation. The Pyrenees as a defensible northern border helped, and MPL provided great agricultural land. Iberico kept it's control over Western Sahara and economic control over Morocco, who's ruler was a puppet for Carlos who had been funding secret propaganda campaigns for years. The Sultanate faced near constant revolts and with the stabilizing French influence collapsing, many were looking to Iberico as a means of stability, if only the religious question could be solved. Naval innovation is one of the main focuses of the administration, along with an attempt to control trade across the Atlantic. With the Azores, particularly Ponte Delgada as a resupply destination, Iberico hoped to become the preeminent landing zone and middleman for American - European trade. Portugal had also reorganized it's Pacific holdings in the past to just one large trading post in Singapore, analogous to British control of Hong Kong. This city required little political oversight as it received investment in the form of health initiatives and technology sharing in return for enormous economic recompense from trade. With the new union there was also heavy investment into building up infrastructure to create a more cohesive nation, while the old Spanish states advocated for more research into more industrial production as they felt embarrassed by American capabilities on that front. Portugal + Spain + South of France up to ~ Toulouse includes Sao Tome and Principe, plus islands off africa like Seychelles + Azores, etc.. but no Andorra Stats: Economy (1-10): Education (1-10): Military Power Overall (1-10): Land Power (1-10): Sea Power (1-10): Air Power (1-10): Technology (1-10): Health (1-10): Infrastructure (1-10): Population:
  9. Thanks for all the votes, we had 12 for this week! Without further ado here are the POTW Offensive Player of the Week: RB Vernon Muhammad - A nice change of pace from Wisconsin to open the season as they blasted Army 55-14 and Vernon picks up 8 first place votes with a statline of 27 attempts, 239 yards, and 3 TDs. Honorable Mention: QB Isaac Tyson. It's been the narrative for years, Isaac wills his team to victory, this time coming up 41-38 against a scary CMU team in a high-stakes QB duel. 29/42 321 yards, 4 total TDs, 1 INT Defensive Player of the Week: Extremely close voting here, as all 5 players picked up at least one 1st place vote. DE Xavier Rawls - As usual, DE stat lines are too sexy to pass up. Xavier feasted against a hapless WKU team, recording 3 tackles, 2 TFLs, and 2.5 sacks as the Illini pitched a shutout, winning 34-0 Honorable Mention: CB A.P. Crosby - 6 Tackles, 1 INT, 1 PD, Only 1 second place vote behind Xavier, A.P. Crosby helped lead the buckeyes to a narrow win over USF, 21-17 Special Teams Player of the Week: PR Charles Graves-Jenkins Another bright spot for the badgers, Charles recorded punt return yards and a TD Honorable Mention: K Drew Stanfield - Crushed the ST this week.
