    [2023] Week #13 - TNF

GG wonderbread Starting to feel like this ...
  2. Being the new coach in this league, the competitiveness and the quality programs are a big reason for me taking on this job here at ODU. Considering I came in with four games left in the season, against very strong and well coached teams certainly makes things harder short term, but the administration brought me in to build this program up for long term success. We are looking forward to playing in THE Conference-USA and to continue making this the premier conference regardless of levels.
  3. Great question coach. He (Jaden) is a great competitor and made some great plays with both his arm and his legs tonight. One touchdown passing and one rushing is not bad, especially learning the new adjustments to the scheme and the more physical nature of our game now. Yes, he does have some work to do technique wise, schematically, but he is a great worker and leader on this team. I see him rising up and having a very good, positive effect on this team as we progress. Our focus for the team moving on is to get better with our foundational stuff, our techniques, and get better at playing football. Winning will come.
  4. ODU Communications Director speaking off screen: “We’ll let coach give an opening statement then we will take questions. Please raise your hand if you have questions.” ODU Head Coach Kwheele “Obviously a tough night - a physical battle. They made a lot of big plays early that put us on our heels, but we came back and started rolling a little bit later in the game. Really proud of our guys and how they continued to compete, but against a good team you have to be on your toes and be your very best from start to finish - and we weren’t that tonight. So credit to UAB and their coaching staff, and we certainly have to continue to get better.”

  6. I have a full class of recruits, SOme decent ones to build on, but going to take a few seasons to overhaul this team.
  7. GG @Rocketcan Considering I dont really know what I am doing YET and had no input on recruiting this year.
  8. The ODU football program opened the new early signing period by receiving 21 signed letters of intent. In short, today was "an awesome day to be a Monarch," first year head coach Kwheele said at an afternoon press conference. "It raises the bar, which we like," said Kwheele. "We've always surrounded ourselves with people that are high achievers and have high expectations. This is a huge step in that direction, it really is." "We made it a goal; we'd be lying if we said we didn't make it one of our goals," Kwheele said of one day leading the C-USA. "The fact it landed there, that's awesome. … It's a great start. We achieved a goal. And we want to keep elevating that goal." 9. Thanks for the kind words

  10. Rusty, appreciate the question. it is never easy to take over a successful program at the beginning of a season and even more challenging being late in a season with such a monumental game at hand. Florida International is a solid rival and like any coach knows rivalry games are something completely different. I have full faith in this team to respond positively to this opportunity that has been presented to us. Right now our focus is on this game and this qualify opponent. God willing should we play in the championship we will deal with that when it presents itself. First thing first is to maintain our current success and build on our strengths as a team, a family here at ODU. tsweezy thanks for the question. As you can probably tell taking over a team late in a season under these circumstances stances will be a challenge. We have some solid student-athletes that are adapting quite well to a more physical style of practice and schemes. An in depth analysis of the program will take place after the season is completed. The leaders of this team are doing a great job and are enjoying the more physical nature of practice we will see how it translate on the field soon enough. jus to give you a bit of my coaching philosophy - we will be very physical at the point of attack and be very innovative in using our skill players on both sides of the ball. being that we have a very important game this Saturday we won’t be able to disclose specifics of our game plans. I would just point to my most recent background working at a certain PAC 12 school.
  11. Old Dominion University Announces Kwheele as Head Football Coach Norfolk, Va - Old Dominion University Monarchs have announced that kwheele as their new Head Football Coach after the sudden departure by the previous head coach, TheTacoofDoom. First year head coach Kwheele has quite a task ahead of him taking over a Monarchs football team in the middle of a strong season, an important upcoming game with rival Florida International to determine division leadership, and in the middle of recruiting, but is eager to get started. Coach kwheele had this to say: "Were do you start? A tremendous amount of thanks goes out to the entire Monarch football family for this opportunity. First of all I am beyond humbled and honored today to be introduced as head football coach at Old Dominion University.I know this, and think everyone that knows me will know this - you will receive every once of effort, sweat, whatever it takes to make sure our student-athletes have the best, the finest experience from an academic stand point and a football stand point. Before I get into that, there are so many people to thank. That is the hardest part, making sure you don’t miss anybody as you put this paper together, because you only have once chance to do so. I would like to thank President John Broderick and Athletic Director Camden Selig for allowing me this great honor and to trust in me to lead and guide this Monarch football program. The reputation of years and years of great football tradition and facilities, and being in a beautiful part of the country - heard about it, believed it, was ready for it, checked it out and, umm, I expected incredible things and coming here has blown away my expectations. I don’t think the entire country understands the standard that has been set. We know carry the weight of that, and our players understand that we are borrowing these jerseys. It is our job to elevate the standard, to create that legacy, to uphold the legacy so to speak. The game day experience here at S.B. Ballard Stadium is unmatched. It is an atmosphere no one wants to play in. Watching Ballard light up, go crazy and bring an energy - whether they be swag surfing or air guitaring, whatever they do to create a tremendous advantage for our football team - I need to ask our fans, our family to just bring it. It’s critical to us. It’s deep for us. It hits right here - home. It’s critical when we come out of that tunnel to see and feel that - we are a different ball club. We need that. "
  12. In an absolutely out of left field press release, the Old Dominion University announced this morning that TheTacoofDoom would be stepping down as the head football coach effective immediately and that Kwheele has been hired to take his place. In the press release TheTacoofDoom says:
