William Doherty Fails Drug Test

Recommended Posts

William Doherty, second year wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, has failed an NFL-administered drug off-season drug test. He was hit with a red flag for marijuana after the second sample came back positive.

NFL Commissioner alienufo will address the league with a violation policy and verdict. The Denver Broncos may make a statement as well.

The League takes substance abuse problems very seriously. Our players are leaders, and role models for our communities, especially kids, so despite legality in some areas of the country, we will not tolerate the use of marijuana or other drugs by our players.

The NFLHC Substance abuse program for marijuana dictates a 1 game suspension on the first violation, along with regular weekly drug tests instead of random samplings.

A second violation will result in a 3 game suspension.

A third violation will result in an indefinite suspension, with a minimum of 16 games.  In order to be reinstated, the player must prove they are actively seeking help and continue to pass weekly drug tests.

Harder drugs can have harsher punishments.

If a player goes two full years with perfect drug screening records, they will drop down a level in the program.

So now that the policy is clearly stated, William Doherty will be suspended for 1 regular season game in 2021.

The Broncos accept the penalty imposed by Commissioner Alienufo. We are also disappointed that the League chose to retroactively punish William Doherty.
