[2022] Independent Report - Bowl Outlook

Recommended Posts

Bowl Eligible

BYU (8-3)

Remaining schedule: Notre Dame

BYU has clinched a bowl berth with 8 wins already and closes out the season by hosting Notre Dame.  They haven't beaten a team with more than three wins though so the ND game will be a true measuring stick heading into their bowl matchup.

Army (6-4)

Remaining schedule: @TCU, Navy (Neutral)

Army has secured a bowl berth with their 6 wins but will limp into their bowl game most likely.  Following a surprising loss at Houston, they look to be heavy underdogs to both TCU and Navy.  A 6-6 season with a bowl berth is passable but 4 of those 6 wins were against UConn, UMass, New Mexico St, and Liberty (combined 4-40 record).

Quality Win: Air Force

Notre Dame (6-5)

Remaining schedule: @BYU

Notre Dame has had an up and down season but has been able to secure that 6th win finishes out the season at BYU.  A 42-11 record for the 5 teams they have lost to speaks to the strength of schedule that they've faced this season.

Quality Wins: Navy, Miami (FL), Washington State

Removed From Eligibility

Liberty (1-10)

Remaining schedule: @New Mexico State

Liberty was able to beat UMass and has a shot at a 2nd win against NMST but they're still a ways away from being able to compete for a bowl.

New Mexico State (1-10)

Remaining schedule: Liberty

Like Liberty, New Mexico State has a win against UMass.  One of them will win a 2nd game.

UMass (1-10)

Remaining schedule: @FAU

UMass was able to win a game but that came against FCS New Hampshire.  With their history to date though, a win is a win.
