Boise, ID

March 19th, 2022

From the desk of a Boise State Journalism Intern

Coach AzulCaballero began his recruiting pursuit with one week left before Nation Signing Day and with the #134 recruiting class in the nation. Though the circumstances he came into were not ideal he managed snag a few recruits and some JUCO studs to fill out a 91st ranked class to enter into the 2023 season; a 43 spot jump in such a small window.

With a solid stable of new broncos, let’s get to know some of these recruits; how much bronco spirit is really in their veins?

RB CeeCee Henderson 6-1 206 Jr Citrus College (Glendora CA) 4.0 of 4.5 [Power]
Thoroughbred

CeeCee is clearly a Thoroughbred. Fast, powerful, strong, and with great brains; who could ask for anything more? One of the fastest breeds, definitely one for those with the need for speed. They are also great show jumpers, though they're known better for racing. And the eventing horse, the elite athlete. Even though they can definitely be a handful for an inexperienced person, they have super big hearts, are willing, and super athletic. They are extremely smart and inquisitive horses. I mean what more proof do we need than all the famous race horses or maybe even the ex-racehorses that didn't make and turned out to make great companions to their coaches!
Though with all horses, thoroughbreds need much patience and training to become the amazing creatures they are. Much like the andalusians, these horses can be the best of the best with the old English Kings when their knights rode them into battle. Altogether though, the thoroughbred horse is nonetheless an amazingly beautiful, strong and powerful horse. Any coach along with any workhorse like CeeCee should know this.

DE Elijah Aponte 6-7 257 (Jr) Eastern Florida State College (Brevard County FL) 3.5 of 4.5 [Blitz]
Arabian

I've worked with Arabs for several years and Elijah really meshes with many of the traits I’ve seen in this magnificent breed. This breed is very versatile and can do any discipline you want to. Maybe not the best but they will compete in every game you play. The breed is very intelligent and can usually outsmart their positional coaches. They are amazing at meddling personalities with their coaches and become an extension of your own being rather than a mount. They become part of you and who you are because they are so amazingly smart. Also they have huge hearts. And can learn anything. If you can handle the fire in your Arab with respect, they will respect you in return and you'll both be tempered into something better, I expect the same from a player like Aponte.
The horse breed has an average height range 14-16 hand high, though this bad boy is a whopping 19-20 hands high! People say they are crazy and hard to ride through the regular season, well I say it's the people that make them that way. Whether they are heavy handed, or use too much aids Arabians are just as gentle as any old Quarter Horse. Aponte, like an Arabians, just seem so excited constantly because they are bred to be high spirited for flashiness. Arabians are the Ferrari of the horse breeds.

CB Kenneth Braxton 5-9 176 Fr Watsonville (Watsonville CA) 1.0 of 3.5 [Man Coverage]
Mustang

Mustangs might not have the best confirmation or best attitude (at first), but there is something about them most people overlook. Mustangs are intelligent, resilient, durable, athletic, sure footed, easy-keepers, who are capable of doing anything that is asked of them. They have all of these attributes because of their adaptability to harsh environmental conditions; and, if they didn't have these characteristics to their breed they wouldn't have survived in the wild this long. The most important thing to keep in mind when working with this breed, is they need to trust you. Trust is key. You have to show them that things are OK. Your domestic horse will see objects and a Mustang will see past objects to see if they are a threat. With honest love, a lot of patience, and appreciation for their heritage they will not let you down. Just remember that complacency with any horse could get your hurt.

ILB Ian Bullard 6-1 235 Fr Blanchet Catholic (Salem OR) 1.0 of 3.5 [Mike]
Friesian

The Friesian is an ancient beautiful breed originally regarded as a powerful all-around utility animal. Throughout history it has been used as a war horse, having the strength, agility and sturdy bodies to carry armored knights into battle, and in every sort of farm work and riding purposes. In the last few hundred years Friesians have gained a reputation as a fine saddle horse and as an excellent harness horse because of its active trot. They are also intelligent horses. Best nature and the most inquisitive of all breeds. Stunning behaviour and learning is slow but its quality results.
