[2023] Notre Dame Announces Transfers

Recommended Posts

Today, as players can officially announce their intentions to transfer, Notre Dame head coach joedchi was notified by two athletes that they intend to transfer.

K Constantine Meier 6-3 222 (Sr) Saltsburg (Saltsburg, PA) 3.0 of 3.0 [Power]

Prior to the 2021 season, Meier transferred into Notre Dame from the University of Georgia.  At the time, Meier would be only the 2nd kicker on the Irish roster.  But with Beckett Burke manning the position, Meier hasn't had a chance to get onto the field.  Burke returns for his senior season and Meier will look to transfer to an FCS program to hopefully win a starting job before most likely concluding his kicking career.  Meier does have intentions to return to Notre Dame after the year to pursue a doctorate of Philosophy.

RB Kofi Ransom 5-9 183 Jr Pope (Marietta GA) 3.0 of 3.0 [Speed]

Ransom committed to Notre Dame in the fall of 2020.  He was hoping to get a crack at the starting job this year with the graduation of Ray Briscoe.  Kofi started for the Gold team with the second team offense in the spring game and ran 20 times for 84 yards and a touchdown.  He looked agile and capable against the 2nd team defense.  At the end of the day, he was passed on the depth chart by redshirt freshman Khalil Raji.  Instead of backing up Raji for the next two seasons, Ransom is looking to transfer.  With not redshirting when he got to Notre Dame, he can transfer to another FBS program and still have two years of eligibility.

Coach, when he was looking to transfer the first time, why did you bring him in despite having Beckett Burke?

With stats like that in a Spring Game do you think he will draw significant FBS (G5) interest or is more destined to go FCS just do to raw skill/potential?

Beckett was all we had on the roster.  We needed someone to be here in case Beckett got hurt and also to push him if he lost his way.  He had some offers from some G5 schools where he had a better chance to win a starting job but wanted to come here for the education.   Constantine's father was really pushing him to pursue a Philosophy degree and he thought that Notre Dame was the best place for him to pursue that degree.

Kofi had a great game and I'd love to see him get a G5 opportunity.  I just don't know how many teams are looking to rely on a 3.0 to spearhead their running game.  Again it was against our second team defense so he may have to transfer to FCS to have similar success on a regular basis.
