Liberty Flames

Head Coach: Vacant

2022 Record: 1-11

Changes: The Flames open the season coachless.  Running Back Timothy Gonzales has graduated.  He had 228 carries for 936 yards and 9 TDs but he was the most consistent weapon.  Defensive End Warren Rose graduated as well and he was the only player who recorded more than one sack

Strength: It's hard to find one true strength but as a position group, the secondary looks to be the most talented with Strong Safety Paul Moore being looked on to lead the team again.  Look for redshirt freshman QB Garrett Cameron to take control of the offense.  He is by far the best quarterback this team has had in their brief existence.

Weakness: This program is still building but needs a consistent coach to find an identity.  The running game which was their best feature a season ago turns into a major weakness.  The team has 4 scholarship wide receivers so they will look to get some production from their tight ends.  The defensive line is young and inexperienced which could lead to giving up long drives and lots of points again.

Key Returning Starters:

  • TE Aaron Santiago 11 catches, 119 yards, 1 TD
  • SS Paul Moore 44 tackles
  • ILB Vincent Dillard 50 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 PD

Key Games: New Mexico State, UMass

2023 Outlook:  This looks to be another long year for the Flames.  They hope to build on their 1 win campaign from last year but they may have trouble doing so.

Prediction: 1-11

How do you plan on “selling” this job to a new coach? How can you make this position more attractive than say an FCS or Sun Belt opening?

It won't be easy.  But there are FCS and Sun Belt jobs that are tough sells as well. It's probably going to take someone with ties to the region plus a dislike for the corporate conference layout.
