Devy Flexes His Guns in Miami

Meep Meep

New Mexico State Aggies

Head Coach: Vacant

2022 Record: 2-10

Changes: This program enters the 2023 without a coach.  OG Donald Reilly has left for the pros and leaves a void on what was a decent unit.  Inside linebacker Randy Brown was a top player for this defense over the past couple season and his experience and 49 tackles will be missed.

Strength: Senior running back Shane Walker is still really good but hasn't had much help around him.  He will once again be counted on to carry the offense.  The offensive line lost Reilly but returns stud left tackle John Hardison and center Kenny Rosas.  Redshirt sophomore OLB Samuel Pritchard returns and is a beast who should get a ton of tackle opportunities.  Redshirt freshman TE Roberto Medina will make his Aggie debut this year and should be a nice weapon for whoever wins the starting QB job.

Weakness: Uncertainty at quarterback.  Shane Gilmore looks to take over but he has no experience.  The wide receivers are poor.  The secondary is lacking ready players and they will be hard pressed to stop any capable quarterbacks.  All their winnable games are on the road.

Key Returning Starters:

  • RB Shane Walker 192 carries, 716 yards, 8 TDs
  • OLB Samuel Pritchard 45 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 Int, 2 PD, 1 FF
  • OT John Hardison and C Kenny Rosas

Key Games: @Texas State, @Liberty, @ New Mexico

2023 Outlook:  This team has some talent but still has a ton of holes.  They have 4 players that should get drafted so look for scouts to be on hand which is a change.

Prediction: 2-10

I said in another thread that I firmly believe they can win four games with the right coaching and gameplan. They've had better recruiting than Liberty and UMASS and just need someone to make use of it.

Not a great selling point there. And missed opportunity for a program like this not having a coach for transfers that could have helped stabilize them next season.

Agreed. They have NFL bodies at LT and C blocking for a guy that will be either on a roster or a practice squad. With a coach, they beat Liberty and UMass at a minimum and compete in some others. Without a coach, they probably still beat those two since they don't have one either.

Unfortunately they're still building so there's a bunch of 2.5 and 3s starting. But there are some building blocks.
