Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Head Coach: joedchi

2022 Record: 8-5 (Won Independence Bowl)

Changes:  The good new is there's not many.  The biggest loss is OG Josh Pence who graduated and signed as a UDFA.  All other starters either return or were replaced by an equal or higher rated player.

Strength: Continuity.  Brendan Lange returns for his 3rd year as a starter and already owns most school passing records.  The top 5 pass catchers return.  The defense returns 7 of 11 starters and a couple of those guys will be benched for upgrades.  K Beckett Burke returns and for the first time in 3 seasons, their punter didn't leave.

Weakness: Star power.  Lange returns as a 4/4 QB.  Ahmed Slade returns as a 3/4.5 WR.  Jonas Grover returns as a 4.5/4.5 TE, Liam Hildebrand returns as a 4/4 LT, Adalius Proctor returns as a 4.5/4.5 DE, DasSean Woodard returns as a 4.5/4.5 ILB, Daniel Cahill returns as a 3.5/5 ILB, Ayden Patton returns as a 3/4 corner, Damani Jackson steps in as a 3/4 SS.  There's 4.0s littered all across the roster which was a point in building up the team but Cahill is the only 5.0 potential player (not counting Ragsdale who is redshirting).

Key Returning Starters:

  • QB Brendan Lange 287 for 473, 60.68%, 3305 yards, 26 TDs, 11 Ints
  • WR Ahmed Slade 62 catches, 932 yards, 7 TDS
  • ILB DaeSean Woodard 62 tackles, 5 Ints, 1 PD

Key Games: Michigan, @Purdue, @Boston College, @Navy, USC

2023 Outlook: After back to back 8-5 seasons, Notre Dame looks to upgrade. But with the top teams on the schedule, it will be a bit of the same.  They are better both offensively and defensively but 8-9 wins looks to be their ceiling.

Prediction: 8-4 (Bowl Eligible)

Go Irish. If Lange can keep the INTs down this could be a dark horse team that can pull off upsets

Agreed.  He has better weapons than he's had.  The majority of the roster is sophomores and juniors so they're getting there.  I hope the chemistry offsets some of the the more talented teams we play.
