Pope, Eric, the Second

#7 Oklahoma QB Eric Pope reclaimed his starting job, and proceeded to go 25/36 for 343 yards and 4 TD as Oklahoma routed Texas 52-13.

Devy Flexes His Guns in Miami

The Saints pull the upset over Miami. Saints QB Aaron Devereaux threw for 3 TD as the New Orleans defense held Miami to 5 rushing yards in the 31-27 victory.

Meep Meep

UTSA snaps #11 Rice's 26-game winning streak in CUSA games with a decisive 31-20 road victory. QB Justin Radford threw for 208 yards and had 3 total TDs.

Foster: Chicagoan for QB

Bears QB Mohammed Foster has come into his own as the team has jumped to a 6-3 start. Foster put up 102 on the ground, including a 45-yard TD, in a 20-10 victory over LA.

[2023] ISU Opponent Watch: Week 12

Where the north wind meets the sea

About last week:

Image result for harvard football protest

At halftime of a real life football game, Harvard and Yale students came together to protest their University's Presidents to take action on climate change. But for the purposes of MY NARRATIVE, they were actually protesting to make their football teams better. ISU beat Harvard 24-21, knocking them back to .500. And Yale is still terrible. The protests didn't work.

THE ROAD AHEAD

:jmu: JAMES MADISON (5-3)

Last Week: Bye

RECAP: No game, bye.

This team is as frightening as: If I can level with you for a second: I'm fucking terrified of this game. JMU is as frightening a really good football team playing their most important game of the season, ready to take down anyone who gets in their way. Fear Level: 9.5

ISU should worry about: JMU is coming off a bye week and will be the most talented defense ISU has faced all year. ISU's defense, whether it be passing or rushing, have not been that great. JMU has enough talent on offense to score enough points to win this game should their defense not be up to their usual greatness. There's a lot to worry about.

ISU can sleep soundly about: Considering UC Davis beat North Dakota State this past week (more on THAT later), it should give ISU a lot of confidence that they may be the best team in the FCS. That doesn't mean they're not susceptible to an upset, but it should bring them some confidence that JMU has to beat them, and not the other way around.

When they play ISU: JMU may think we're in their way, but in reality they are in our way. Expect a really competitive match.

Next week: Two go in, one comes out.

[AFTER THE JUMP: The road gets way easier, then really hard, then just kinda ok.]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:famu: FLORIDA A&M (2-6)

Last Week: Bye

RECAP: No game, bye (that's probably for the best)

This team is as frightening as: Getting an ice cream after being in a massive brawl. Fear Level: 1.5

Delicious

ISU should worry about: James Madison

ISU can sleep soundly about: Florida A&M

When they play ISU: We'll have some bruises but nothing a triple scoop can't fix.

Next week: vs. Yale

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:delaware: DELAWARE (6-3)

Last Week: Beat Youngstown State 31-27

RECAP: Finally a team we can recap! Delaware seems to be back on track after letting go of their OC, as Barack Holmes has been more inclusive in the offense. The defense didn't look as good, especially considering that even though Youngstown has improved under Booker T., 27 points is a lot of points to give up. Having said that, the Blue Hens are still one of the most dangerous teams in the FCS.

This team is as frightening as: We have yet to give a fear level of 10 to an FCS team on this program, and although I am more terrified of Delly than I am of JMU, 10 still seems a biiit high. So for now we give them a Fear Level: 9.96

ISU should worry about: Do you hear something? It sounds like a low rumbling, but it feels far away. Ok now the rumbling is getting louder. It's getting closer. The ground is starting to shake. In the distance, what is that? A man? A machine? No, I know what it is. And it's absolutely terrifying. It's...

ISU should sleep soundly about: Illinois State has forced a turnover in every win this year. They'll need to be at least positive on the turnover margin if they wish to win this game. They do get the benefit of being at home, which should matter quite a bit as the weather gets nastier.

When they play ISU: I don't think they're ready for this jelly.

Next week: Bye

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:ysu: YOUNGSTOWN STATE (4-4)

Last Week: Lost to Delaware 31-27

RECAP: A close loss here for the Penguins, but they shouldn't hang their heads. This team is doing a lot of good things, and each week they grow stronger. By the time the playoffs come around they could get a win or two. At 4-4, don't sleep on this team.

This team is as frightening as: One of the Scooby-Doo monsters before the gang takes off the mask and realizes it was just some old creep who was just bored. Fear Level: 6

Don't worry, it's just Old Man McGuckit. He's mad that his amusement park is being shut down or something

ISU should worry about: A sudden offensive resurgence. The Penguins have almost completely abandoned the running game, passing for 325 yards but rushing for only 25. Would a more balanced attack been enough to beat the Blue Hens? It's hard to say, but as Sammy Connor has taught us, you just need to throw for enough yards to carry your team to victory.

ISU can sleep soundly about: A couple months ago we were worried that ISU would not be good enough on pass defense to win a title. But now, it's actually the run defense that's the problem. Considering that the Penguins are a mostly passing team now, the defense should have no problem shutting them down.

When they play ISU: It's like the last day of school; first met with exhilaration then met with some sadness knowing it's the end of the journey, for now.

Next week: @ Harvard

OBJECTS IN THE REARVIEW

:montana: MONTANA (1-7)

Last Week: Bye

RECAP: No game, bye.

Next week: vs. South Dakota State

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:ucd: UC DAVIS (6-2)

Last Week: BEAT NORTH DAKOTA STATE 28-13!!!!!!!

RECAP: PARTY IN DAVIS! THE AGGIES SUCCESSFULLY KNOCK OFF THE BiZON IN A GAME THAT WAS ACTUALLY NECK AND NECK UNTIL THE 4TH QUARTER WHEN FELIX LUCK PUT THE TEAM ON HIS BACK, GREG JENNINGS STYLE.

Image result for you did it meme

EVERYONE LIKED THAT

Next week: @ Eastern Washington

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:ewu: EASTERN WASHINGTON (3-5)

Last Week: Bye

RECAP: No game, bye

Next week: vs. UC Davis

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:ps: PORTLAND STATE (0-8)

Last Week: They lost.

RECAP: Better luck next week!

Next week: vs. Northern Iowa

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:tulsa: TULSA (3-5)

Last Week: Beat Memphis 35-28

RECAP: Now that's what you like to see.

Next week: @ Navy

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:yale: YALE (0-8)

Last Week: Lost to New Hampshire 23-17

RECAP: Don't take too much stock in this "close" 6 point defeat. New Hampshire lives on games decided by a touchdown or less. Also the game was never as close as the score seems to make it out to be. They passed for a season high 185 yards, which is what some teams average per game. There's a debate on whether Yale or Portland is actually the worst team in the FCS, but only one team has lost to Montana, so for now Yale is only second-worst. They're not even bad enough to be ironically relevant.

Pictured: The last time Yale football was relevant

Next week: @ Florida A&M

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:unh: NEW HAMPSHIRE (3-6)

Last Week: Won @ Yale 23-17

RECAP: The best 6 loss team in the country, change my mind. New Hampshire was close to losing embarrassingly to winless Yale, but they were just able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat by outplaying Yale across the board. This was a slow painful but never in doubt march to victory. The team will need a win over Youngstown to secure a playoff spot, as a 3-9 record may not be good enough to get in.

Next week: Bye
