Miami Redhawks 2023 Recruiting Class

Defensive 4 Stars and Above

No offense to the other recruits but these guys are who I am most excited to see in action in 2024.  The Redhawks defense will definitely see major improvement with these new faces joining DT Morris Jackson 6-7 302 (Jr) East Technical (Cleveland OH) 5.0 of 5.0 [2-Gap], ILB Kayden Shaw 5-11 239 (So) Indian Lake (Lewistown OH) 3.0 of 4.0 [Will], and CB Jeremiah Christy 5-11 191 Jr Central Catholic (Pittsburgh PA) 3.0 of 4.0 [Man Coverage] as the highest potential defensive players on the Redhawks.  Without further ado let me introduce you to the Redhawks highest ranked defensive recruit this cycle.

#1: SS Zontavius Pearson 6-2 190 Jr Hutchinson Community College (Hutchinson KS) 4.0 of 4.5 [Zone Coverage]

Pearson comes from Hutchinson already well developed, and shows potential to contribute whenever he's able to take the field (I think he may have a one season transfer period but i'm not sure).  Miami has been lacking a game changer at safety, and it is terrific to be able to sign one as skilled as Zontavius. He will be a great addition for preventing deep threats and boosting Miami's zone coverage.

#2: ILB Mitch Stallings 6-2 247 Fr Wahama (Mason WV) 1.5 of 4.5 [Will]

Stallings is a terrific addition to a linebacker corps lacking strong second options.  He will sit behind ILB Kayden Shaw 5-11 239 (So) Indian Lake (Lewistown OH) 3.0 of 4.0 [Will] as he is allowed to develop.  Mitch is seen as part of the future of Miami's defense, and one of the most valuable pickups of this class.  I am excited to welcome him to the Redhawks.

#3: OLB Evan Beckett 6-3 237 Fr Brecksville-Broadview Heights ( OH) 1.0 of 4.5 [Blitz]

Beckett is another part of Miami's defense of the future.  A good prospect he will likely spend his first years learning behind OLB Ivan Forsythe 6-0 227 (Jr) Clay (South Bend IN) 3.0 of 3.0 [Blitz] before taking a bigger role in the defense.  OLB is a weak position for the Redhawks, and the addition of Evan is likely to scare teams accustomed to exploiting it.  MAC QB's look out, Beckett is coming.

#4: DT John Coffman 6-2 319 Fr Warner Robins (Warner Robins GA) 1.0 of 4.0 [2-Gap]

With Miami defensive star DT Morris Jackson 6-7 302 (Jr) East Technical (Cleveland OH) 5.0 of 5.0 [2-Gap] likely leaving after the 2024 season a replacement is necessary.  That's where Coffman comes in. While shorter than Jackson he shows potential to dominate future O-Lines and become a cornerstone of the Redhawks D.  John is a relatively raw talent, but he will soon have his chance to prove himself.

Offensive 4 Star

The Redhawks recruiting class on the other side of the ball was unfortunately limited.  Miami only has 2 4.0+ current players, both on the O-Line. OT Felix McCormick 6-3 260 (So) Edgewood (Ashtabula OH) 3.0 of 4.0 [Pass Blocking] and OG Matthew Waldron 6-2 302 (So) Springfield (Holland OH) 4.0 of 4.0 [Pass Blocking] are the core of Miami's Pass protection unit, which will be bolstered by the signing of  new QB. Miami's run game was not as productive as possible, especially when considering the Redhawks did not have a fullback on the roster.  The sole offensive 4 star was recruited to fulfill this need.

FB Adam Vick 5-10 227 Fr Johnson City (Johnson City TX) 3.0 of 4.0 [Run Blocking]

Vick is here baby!  Miami's run game will see an immediate boost with the monster that is Adam Vick.  While he may be technically obese with a BMI of 32.6 he is actually a purely muscle bound god determined to fight anyone that dares to oppose the Redhawks run game.  I see vick as the top recruit for this Miami class, as he will allow the offense to finally assume its multidimensional nature. I see Adam as an essential piece in the puzzle that was the Redhawks offense this year, and can't wait to see him in action.

Other Notable Players

QB Michael Johnston 6-0 238 Fr Gibsonburg (Gibsonburg OH) 1.0 of 3.5 [Scrambling]: Viewed primarily as a replacement for QB Ashton Hilliard 6-4 215 (Jr) Blair-Taylor (Blair WI) 3.5 of 3.5 [Hybrid] when he leaves, will hopefully contribute in a few years, although a backup role is more likely.

C Christian Juarez 6-2 249 Fr Spencerville (Spencerville OH) 1.0 of 3.5 [Run Blocking]:  Needed to fix the weakest link in a relatively complete O-Line, hopefully he can contribute in 2024.

DE Daniel Beckham 6-0 235 Fr Mt. Pleasant (Mt. Pleasant MI) 1.0 of 3.5 [Contain]: A good signing for D-line depth, he will hopefully be a solid player in a few years time.

FS John Corver 5-11 187 Fr Oasis (Mount Pleasant MI) 2.0 of 3.5 [Zone Coverage]: Another good depth signing who has the potential to be a strong defensive contributor in the future.

SS Dontae Mulligan 6-2 193 Fr Edgewood (Ashtabula OH) 1.0 of 3.5 [Man Coverage]: yet another depth player with potential to contribute.

RB Booker Thorpe 6-1 213 Fr West Covina (West Covina CA) 2.0 of 2.5 [Speed]: intended to provide depth chart cover for young guys to develop while not playin in too many games, only should be relevant for around a year.

P Greg Hein 6-3 204 Fr Spring Hill (Columbia TN) 1.0 of 2.5 [Power]: The new punter, special teams is fucked.

QB Trevor Main 6-3 215 Fr Lawrence County (Moulton AL) 1.0 of 2.5 [Pocket]

WR Jaeden Rosario 6-4 205 Fr Taylor (Kokomo IN) 2.0 of 2.5 [Target]
TE Jonathan Spear 6-4 193 Fr Rockville (Rockville IN) 1.5 of 2.5 [Receiving]
OT August Andersen 6-6 282 Fr Mesquite (Mesquite TX) 1.0 of 2.5 [Pass Blocking]
OG Esera Vermeulen 6-4 308 Fr St. Philip Catholic Central ( MI) 2.5 of 2.5 [Run Blocking]
OG Ned Barber 6-2 265 Fr Stewartville (Stewartville MN) 2.0 of 2.5 [Pass Blocking]

OLB Mateo Melendez 5-11 228 Fr Taylor (Kokomo IN) 1.5 of 2.5 [Blitz]
CB Jason Goins 5-9 181 Fr Jesuit (Tampa FL) 1.0 of 2.5 [Zone Coverage]
LS Joe Holton 6-3 230 Fr Fleming Island (Orange Park FL) 1.0 of 2.5 [Traditional]
