Illinois State Redbirds and North Dakota State Bison to give back to the community

Recommended Posts

Normal, IL and Fargo, ND -

Opponents on the field, but comrades off the field - Illinois State and North Dakota State have placed a friendly wager on the upcoming 2023 FCS Championship Game. The runner up of this match will donate money to the champion's charity of choice.

The Bison have chosen the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) as their designated charity.

"Appreciating the animals in your lives has always been of the upmost importance to those of us on the team. We want to give back to the animals who have given us happiness and joy throughout our lives - especially those beautiful bison," said North Dakota State head coach @SolutionA.

The Redbirds have chosen The Organization for Autism Research. It is a national autism organization that "strives to use science to address the social, educational, and treatment concerns of self-advocates, parents, autism professionals, and caregivers." They give scholarships, provide programs and resources for autistic self-advocates, and, in my opinion the most important part, helps those with autism find jobs through their "Hire autism" portal, which just recently made a nationwide launch.

"Growing up with a brother who has autism and getting to know a lot more kids with autism through various charities I've volunteered for, I think it's important for those with autism to have a strong support system. The OAR's mission is to provide research in this field to try to find the best way to help kids with autism grow into their potential."

If you'd like to know more about OAR, here is their website. You can check out the Hire autism portal here.
