[2024] Players to Watch For at the New Mexico Spring Game

Recommended Posts

With the Spring Game right around the corner, here are a few players to watch for at the 2024 New Mexico Lobos Spring Game!

1. QB Jacob Forsythe 6-0 194 Fr La Marque (La Marque TX) 1.0 of 4.0 [Hybrid]

The Freshman QB, the new boy on campus.  One of the marquee players in last year's recruiting class, Forsythe was a coveted recruit out of Texas.  This will be a good preview of the potential things to come in a few years, as Forsythe isn't a pure pocket passer.  Expect to see the coaches attempt to involve him in the run game as well.

2. WR Cooper Johnson 6-4 207 Fr Kashmere (Houston TX) 1.0 of 4.0 [Target]

Forsythe's crosstown rival from high school turned future number 1 target.  Another one of the marquee player's from last year's recruiting class, Johnson is one of the most talented receivers to come to Albuquerque since Vincent Ortiz.  Being put on the same team as Forsythe, this could be a preview of the potential connection between the two of them in a few years.

3. OLB Devin Irving 6-4 227 Fr Wray (Wray CO) 1.0 of 4.5 [Coverage]

Dean Fagan's heir.  THE marquee player from last year's class, Irving has the potential to not only make an NFL roster, but eventually compete for a starting spot.  Irving isn't exactly in the same mold as Fagan, as he has more coverage skills but less pass rushing skills, but Irving can still be a big impact player.  While he will still need time to develop, this could be a preview of one of the defensive leaders in a few years.

4. C Gregory Dubois 6-1 240 (Sr) Eldorado (Albuquerque NM) 5.0 of 5.0 [Run Blocking]

One of the best players to ever wear a Lobo uniform.  Dubois is entering his final year in Albuquerque, and this will be his last spring game.  He has been a fantastic, but often unheralded player for New Mexico, so good in fact, that he has the potential to become not only New Mexico's highest drafted player ever, but a potential 1st round pick.  He should receive massive cheers from the Lobos faithful all year.

Thanks for reading, and be sure to come back next time! Go Lobos!

I’m like a deadbeat step dad who was only around for 3 weeks, but still reminisce on the bad times. Glad they found a great coach to stick around!
