[2024] Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Spring Game Summary

Recommended Posts

The 2024 Hawaii Spring game has wrapped up and can be found here . The 2023 squad lost very few key contributors but the biggest being JT Youngblood who accounted for 41 wins, 14,458 total yards, and 138 TDs in reign as the starter for 4 seasons . Outside of Youngblood, the Warriors lost a couple of low-end WRs, CB2, DE2 all of which are replaced with higher skill, higher potential players. There is no denying that losing the 2x :mwc: 1st Team QB/Offensive Player Of The Year is going to create a massive shift in the dynamic of the team but are the pieces coming back and entering the program enough to ease the loss?

Key Battles

QB Justin Humphries 3.5 / 3.5 Jr [Hybrid]

QB Lucas Wilson 2.0 / 4.0 (Fr) [Hybrid]

QB Aaron Bates 2.5 / 4.0 Fr [Pocket]

It's time for coach to make his money now that the QB position isn't simply plug-and-play Youngblood. Bates got the reps with the 1st team as a sort of experiment but went 20/32 for 230 and 1/1 (with a fumble). His one interception was at the hands of potential top 10 NFLHC draft pick CB Brian Bonds so hardly anything to be upset about. Humphries got the 2nd team reps going 18/35 for 239 and 1/0. Also had 4 yards and a TD on the ground. Lucas Wilson didn't get any time but last year with the 2nd team he went 15/25 for 160 and 0/2. Major decision to be made here and not entirely sure who gets the nod.

OT Mason Lamb 4.0 / 4.0 (Sr) [Run Blocking]

OT Levi Nolan 3.0 / 4.0 (So) [Run Blocking]

OT Samuel Lucero 2.0 / 5.0 Fr [Pass Blocking]

Last year's OL registered a 4.4 average (3rd in the ) and returns all 5 starters (4 of which were (SO) or (FR). The Warriors beat out ASU for the nation's 4th best OT in Lucero. Very good chance he gets a nod over Nolan. If so, Nolan would replace Lamb in 2025 and start for 2 more years.

DT Odell Wilson 4.0 / 4.0 Jr [2-Gap]

DT Hikialani Wai 2.0 / 4.5 (Fr) [2-Gap]

Odell Wilson is likely to get the nod after being 3rd in the team for tackles, 2nd in TFL, and 2nd in Sacks at the NT position. Hikialani Wai got the 2nd team reps and registered 3 tackles, 1 TFL, and a sack.

ILB Shawn Mason 4.0 / 4.0 (Jr) [Mike]

ILB Solomon Hamrick 2.5 / 5.0 (Fr) [Mike]

Another extremely difficult situations to pick here as Mason tied for the team-high in Tackles (27) and 2nd in INT (3). Hamrick in the 2022 class was a top 10 ILB and went +1.5 after his RS reason. Going to be a toss-up.

OLB Mohammed Gregory 3.5 / 3.5 (Jr) [Blitz]

DE Kamamalu Nalani 2.0 / 5.0 Fr [Blitz]

In Hawaii's 3-4 the Jack position is going to be critical to getting pressure on opposing QBs. Gregory tied for the team-high in Tackles (27) in the SAM position. Nalani, the 2nd highest-rated DE in the 2023 class, registered 5 tackles, 1 TFL and 1 FF in the JACK spot w/ the first team. It looks like it makes sense to shift OLB Leon Hickman 4.0 / 4.0 Sr [Blitz] over to SAM as he had 5 T, 2 TFL, and a sack. Nalani will probably be set as DE3 and JACK1 for blitz heavy situations.

Coach @GigemAgs will be around to answer any questions if there are any.
