Spring Game

"First i want to start out by saying how much fun i'm having so far coaching here, its been a pleasure. The spring game was exactly what we needed as a coaching staff to get a better understanding of where we are as individuals, and how far we have to come as a team. I thought the game was very competitive, and overall we were pleased."

Jaden Harrell was 19/31 for 199 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception and 1 rushing touchdown. Eli Durham ran the ball 17 times for 59 yards and a touchdown. While Aaden Holmes hauled in 3 receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball Bruce Turner was everywhere with 7 tackles, While the defensive captain Omari Pearson recorded 3 tackles, 1 for a loss, and a sack. Rory Bowser was 6/6 on XP and 3/3 on FG from 36,39,40.

Starting Lineup

Quarterback

"At quarterback we're rolling with Jaden Harrell. We love everything about him, his size, experience, ability to scramble. We're giving him the keys to this offense and hes going to have a lot of freedom with it. We have a redshirt freshman in the name of Adrian Garvin, he shows us a lot potential and hes going to be backing up Jaden this year but were excited about his development as the season goes."

Running Back

"We're young and small but perfect 1-2 punch. Here we're going to see Eli Durham taking most of the carries with his speed. We're expecting him to take a workload out of the backfield and deliver, as well as Rowe, running through people."

image.jpeg

Full Back

"At fullback Gabe whitney gets the nod, hes a big body looking for contact but  with him and Kieran Dickinson, we have a battle, we're looking for one guy to step up and take over the spot"

image.jpeg

Wide Receivers

"I'm Really excited about our wide receiver core. They're big, physical, and fast. Lead by Senior Luke Rivera, who stands 6-5, Then another senior, Kristian Marion, and the speedster, junior Riley Harrington. Look for the senior Aaden Holmes too see some passes coming his way this season. Along with the youngster, Omar Harley who stands 6-5."

Tight Ends

"At tight end we're lead by Kaden Newsome, whos a really solid blocking tight end with nice size. We expect to use a group of tight ends including, Kofi McCall who also brings excellent size and is a nice blocker. We'll be using Giovanni Wood as well, we expect him to see majority of our passes this season, being our best receiving tight end."

Offensive line

"I really, really, cant emphasize how important our offensive line is going to be this year just controlling the trenches. With that being said we're impressed and ready to go with the group of guys we have. At tackle we have our offensive captain senior Freddie Penn. He comes in at 6-6, an absolute monster up front. Playing opposite of him on the line is Simon Bass, whom the offensive staff really loved this spring. Another 6-6 body ready to get better. Playing at guard next to Freddie Penn is Tyler stone. Tyler's earned this job, at first he was coming back second on the depth chart but once again the offensive staff really loved what he did this spring and hes starting, not to mention our biggest body at 339lbs. Matteo Jolly will be holding down the right guard position for us. Another Senior on the line, the only other one with Penn, we expect a lot out of Jolly and he looks ready to go. Anchoring the middle will be Bruce McManus. I cant say enough about the kid he's a genius majoring in Biomedical Engineering says enough about his ability to see what's going on up front."

Defensive Line

"If I had to pick a position I expect the most from this season it's the defensive line group. These guys are MONSTERS up front. Starting on the left side with our defensive Captain 6 foot 6 Omari Pearson. He's a guy we think will be out there on Sundays. Lining up opposite of him you have 6 foot 7 Kai Webb. We expect with all the attention Omari brings Kai will have a break out year. In the middle is 6 foot 7 Jonah sawyer. playing Nose Tackle is 6 foot 5 Colin Cornell. Once again we expect a huge year out of the three headed monsters up front.

Outside Linebacker

"At out side linebacker you're going to see about 5 different guys in and out, all we expect to contribute. Starting at left side is going to be Justice Chambers a senior who plays excellent coverage defense. In the mix with him will be Ron Brown a red shirt freshman who gets off the edge and the sophomore Donovan Griggs. Opposite will be the junior Bruce Turner who gets off the edge quick and in the mix will be Gabriel Russell another junior whos a good cover linebacker."

image.jpeg

Inside Linebacker

"In the middle of our defense will be David Parnell (senior) and Darnell Waller (junior), who are two high energetic guys, that love to hit. Most importantly they're smart. We're very confident in Jermaine Taylor and Jamal Bonds, though. The pair of sophomores, that are going to see their fair shares of snaps as well this season."

image.jpeg

Cornerbacks

"This was another position for us we felt we could expect a lot out of this year, even with them being so young. Justice Thurman is probably our best corner right now, a red shirt sophomore but Michael Young and Devante Landry the two juniors behind him on the depth chart are hell of players as well. Michael Young will line up across Thurman. Our senior Zion Gay will lineup in the nickelback for us , we expect him to have a huge impact and be a leader as well."

image.jpeg

Safeties

"Our safeties really compliment our corners and honestly our whole defense well, the cherry on top. We'll have Hakeem Whitey (senior) playing free safety and the physical Nasir Hayes (junior) playing strong safety, both guys have good size and love ball hawking. Geno Rollins is going to play the dimeback for us this year, a sophomore whom we expect to take over at free safety next season , this is a great spot for him to learn and get better."

image.jpeg

Special Teams

" This is where we have to be the sharpest, this is where you'll catch opponents and take advantage. Hang around me long enough and you'll see how much I love special teams and how important I think it is. Rory Bowser. A team captain, gonna need him this year and the kid has a boot, its just gonna be about getting him in the right position. Punting will be Owen McDonald. Long snapping Rodrigo Arriaga. Returning Kicks David Flowers. Returning punts Jahmir Strong."

Transfers

"My first act in getting players to ODU was getting two talented guys to transfer in. The coaching staff felt like it was Christmas landing these two guys. First we got William Eason from Auburn. We really love this kids ability to scramble and we expect him to learn the offense this year and be our guy next year. We were able to go out and get help for our offensive line next year as well. Spencer McKinley the 6-6, 275 lb junior tackle. We love his size and ability to run block. We expect Spencer to step in for Freddie next year."
