stormstopper
With the note that much of this is assuming the score in DAL-NYG is correct and the game log is what's in error: Baltimore at Pittsburgh next week will decide the AFC North. Baltimore wins the division if they tie. Regardless, it is now a guarantee that the winner of the AFC North will be at least .500. Washington clinches the #1 seed in the NFC, a first-round bye, and home-field advantage through the NFC playoffs. Indianapolis stays alive in the division and #1 seed race. If Tennessee ties or wins tonight, that ends. But if Jacksonville beats Tennessee, it would all come down to one game in Indianapolis. Falcons increase their lead in the division to 7 games. This would match the NFLHC record set three times already for largest divisional win. If they beat Tampa AND Carolina ties or beats New Orleans next week, they will break this record. With a win over Tampa, they would also finish with as many wins as the rest of their division combined regardless of the other result. The big news is in the NFC North and East though. I know I was not expecting Dallas to go on the road and beat the Giants, and I definitely wasn't expecting the Packers to get a win in this matchup with their QB situation, and the fundamentals of the race are greatly altered. (TL;DR: Good news for the Bears, Rams, Seahawks, and Packers. Bad news for the Lions but nothing they can't fix. Very bad news for the Vikings. Dire news for the Eagles and Giants. None are mathematically eliminated yet.) In the NFC East, the Giants and Eagles are on the brink of elimination. They are not dead yet, but they absolutely need Arizona to beat Seattle or it's over for them, and then they'll need Seattle to lose to the Rams next week. Their only shot left is a 9-8 tie for #6 or #7, but tying for the #7 spot with the Packers does them no good because they both lost to them head-to-head. If Seattle wins either game, then only the #7 spot is still available to them. The first step of a wild card tiebreaker is eliminating all but the top team in each division, and the Packers cannot lose a tiebreaker to the Vikings. If they tie, the Packers will have the superior divisional record because it requires the Vikings to lose to the Bears. If the Vikings beat out the Packers, it can only be by going 10-7 which would also eliminate the NFC East teams. Therefore, they need Seattle to lose out and open up the #6 spot as well--as well as eliminate head-to-head as a factor since neither played Seattle. At that stage, then as long as Giants-Eagles produces a winner and Green Bay-Minnesota produces a loser, then the Giants-Eagles winner would have a better conference record than Seattle or the Green Bay-Minnesota loser and get in as a result. They're fine with Green Bay or Minnesota going 10-7, just not Seattle getting a 10th win. In the NFC West, the Rams have clinched a playoff spot. There are now four teams outside division-leading spots that have 7 losses or fewer, and the two teams with exactly 7 losses play each other creating a minimum of 7.5 losses in the 8th spot. That means any team with 10+ wins in the NFC has clinched a berth. Consequently, Seattle can also clinch a playoff spot with a win over either the Cardinals today or the Rams next week. In the NFC North, the Vikings are now in do-or-die mode. If they lose to us, they are eliminated: they would be unable to do better than a tie against Green Bay, and they would lose that tiebreaker on divisional record even if they even up the head-to-head series next week. They get no help even if Seattle loses out, because Seattle would have the superior conference record. However, if (Ditka forbid) Minnesota beats us, then their matchup against Green Bay becomes a do-or-die affair. The biggest news of all: the Chicago Bears have clinched a playoff spot for the second consecutive season and the second season overall! Regardless of our result against Minnesota, we will have a chance to clinch the division next week at Detroit with a win. (If we win against Minnesota, a tie would also suffice.) And last but not least, the Cincinnati Bengals are now on the clock. With the loss, they will officially pick first in the 2026 NFLHC Draft.
