The 2016 National Football League Expansion Draft was the most recent National Football League (NFL) draft in which 4 new expansion teams - the San Diego Chargers, the Denver Broncos, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Seattle Seahawks, selected their first players. So that these teams could become competitive with existing teams, NFLHC commissioner Soluna awarded these teams the first four picks in the 2016 NFLHC Draft and gave them the opportunity to select players from existing teams. This selection is handled in the expansion draft.
In this draft, held before the regular draft, the existing franchises were allowed to protect 18 players on the team that the teams would not be allowed to select; all other players were allowed to be selected. Each team could only have 4 players selected from them before all other players were protected. This was the second expansion draft in NFLHC history.
Rules of the Draft
Process
Each NFLHC team listed 18 players that would not be allowed to be selected by the expansion teams; all other players were available to be selected. Only 4 players could be selected from each team in total before the team's remaining players were protected.
Salary Cap Ramifications
The teams will be forced to take on any existing contracts of players they select; if the player's contract is expiring they retain exclusive rights to negotiate with the player.

Based on the random selection of the order of the expansion draft, the reverse order was given for teams to pick in during the regular draft.
