The 2016 Pittsburgh Panthers football season is their third season under coach Jumbo. This season follows the 2015 Pitt season in which they were crowned Coastal champions.

Before the second game of the year, Jumbo hired thatfunk as offensive coordinator and demoted Erik Mims to TE coach. Michael Williams remained on as defensive coordinator.

Two games later, thatfunk left to take the Marshall head coaching job, leading Mims to be re-promoted.
