The Big 12 Championship Game is the matchup between the winners of the Big 12 North Division and the Big 12 South Davision to determine the Big 12 champion, as well as the league's automatic bid to the Sugar Bowl against the SEC champion (barring a playoff appearance). With a 35-21 victory over Baylor in the 2019 Big 12 Championship Game, Oklahoma is the reigning champion of the conference for the second time. Texas has won the most Big 12 championships (3), followed by Oklahoma and Kansas (2 each); no other school has won a conference title through seven seasons. Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, West Virginia, and former member UCF have all made appearances in the game. West Virginia has clinched a berth to play in the 2020 Big 12 Championship Game in the first year of the conference's round-robin format.

Results

Pre-Division Format

In 2013, the Big 12 used a non-divisional format in which the top two teams in the final regular-season standings advanced to the championship game. The regular-season schedule was not a round-robin, so a championship game rematch was not guaranteed.

Division Format

From 2014 to 2019, the Big 12 was divided into North and South divisions. Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and West Virginia were in the North Division; Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, and Texas Tech were in the South Division.

Post-Division Format

Beginning with the schedule reform of 2020, the Big 12 returned to a non-divisional format in which the top two teams in the final regular-season standings would qualify for the conference championship game. The round-robin schedule means that the championship game is guaranteed to be a rematch.
