Professional Career
Draft
Branch was not a highly regarded prospect in the draft. He was selected in the 15th round of the inaugural draft by the St. Louis Rams. He was the 13th tight end selected.
St. Louis Rams
Branch only lasted one season with the Rams. He was the only tight end on the roster and was the second most productive receiving threat on the team behind Walt Peck. The Rams allowed him to walk to free agency and drafted Jamal Hawkins in the 5th round to replace him.
Carolina Panthers
The New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, and Carolina Panthers placed bids on Branch in free agency. He chose the Panthers. The Panthers just had the best tight end in 2014 in Spec Davidson who was lost to free agency. Branch picked up where Davidson left off. Having the best quarterback in the league at the time, Christian Skaggs, likely benefited Branch greatly. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and 2016, accumulating 19 touchdowns in those two shortened seasons. In 2017, Branch's numbers took a dip and he was quickly replaced by Kelly Littleton the next season. Branch served as the #3 tight end in 2018 and 2019 before deciding to retire.
