Brent Hankton (born November 5, 1993) is an American football Placekicker for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for West Virginia. Thompson was drafted by the Lions in the sixth round of the 2015 NFLHC Draft.

Early Years
Hankton was born in Matewan, WV. He attended Matewan High School.
College Career
Brent Hankton attended West Virginia for 4 years and was a 4 year starter. His skill grew each year and he became particularly noted for his powerful but accurate leg. He gained a lot of attention in his senior year where despite a low volume of kicks he kicked five 50+ yard field goals and was known for dealing with pressure extraordinarily well. He was considered a top kicker and was expected to be drafted in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Professional Career
After earning his degree Hankton stated he intended to pursue a career in the NFL. Many teams were in need of an elite kicker and so Hankton was expected to be drafted.
Hankton was drafted in the 6th round (136th overall) in the [2015 NFLHC Draft]] by the Detroit Lions.He was the 3rd kicker taken in the draft but Lions Owner Sophos stated he was the top kicker on their board and that he was thrilled to acquire him in the 6th round.
Detroit Lions
Hankton signed a rookie contract on May 11th 2015 and immediately became the Lions starting kicker. He impressed greatly in training camp and preseason where he was tested by the team on long FG's. His penchant for coping well with pressure and winning some Lions games with his kicks led him to quickly become a fan favorite.
Hankton signed a 4 year 8 million dollar contract prior to the start of the 2017 season.
