The Charlotte 49ers is a collegiate football team, representing the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. They are members of the Conference USA, which began play in 2018. The team is currently coached by Isaac829, who is in his 6th season with the team.

History
Isaac829 era (2018–2021, 2022–)
Soon after the the program was announced, former Tulane coach Isaac829 became the first head coach. The 49ers went 5-7 (5-2) in their first season, exceeding most expectations. The team was short one win from post-season and conference championship. The first notable recruit to join the program was Kaden Jennings. Two junior college fullbacks, Carter Helms and Avery Middleton, transferred to the school late in the season, and were eligible for the 2019 season.
In the second season, the program performed slightly worse, going 3-9 (3-4). The offense struggled to pass the ball, but had one of the best running offenses in the country. One of the highly recruited quarterbacks, Chris Billings, became the highest rated recruit to join the team for the 2020 season. Linebacker Kieron Brooks transferred from University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, also becoming eligible for the 2020 season.
The 2020 and 2021 seasons continued the downward slope of the 49ers. The 49ers finished 2-10 in 2020. Coach Isaac resigned 4 games into the 2021 season after an 0-4 start. The 49ers finished 0-12 after a season full of struggles on the offensive line. Charlotte only had 5 offensive lineman on the roster heading into the season and was forced to start a fullback at right tackle after injuries occurred. Highly rated recruit QB, Chris Billings, struggled heavily due to his offensive lineman, and set a record by fumbling 11 times in a season.
Coach dderk too over the 49ers at the start of the 2022 season but quickly left the program after a 1-4 start. Isaac829 returned in the middle of the 2022 season and took back control of Charlotte and won 3 of their final 5 games. In Chris Billings final season in 2023, the 49ers made it to their first bowl game and nearly won the C-USA East. Billings improved greatly and was named C-USA Player of the Year. The 49ers did not win their bowl game but ended 9-4, the only winning season for the 49ers so far.
