College Career

He became the starter before the 2019 season. McLean had an excellent freshman season which resulted in him being named C-USA Offensive Player of the Year. This success continued as McLean is the only player to win his conference's Player of the Year in all four seasons. He won four conference championships but never won a bowl game. He set many national records at Rice, including most career passing TDs. He finished 4th in Heisman voting in 2022 and was named an All-American. He was the third player inducted to the Rice Owls Hoot of Fame.
