Over the course of his final two seasons, Simmons became known for his reliability and consistency, something that many college players struggle with. Draft
Harold Simmons was selected with the 158th overall pick in the 2016 NFLHC Draft by the Houston Texans.
2016
Simmons' career got off to a quick start with the Houston Texans. The team named him the starting quarterback during preseason and he did not disappoint. Simmons helped the team to an 8-4 record and the franchise earned its first ever playoff berth. Unfortunately for the rookie, a rough first half and a concussion knocked him out of the Wildcard game against the Cleveland Browns. Richard Ramos came in relief and threw a pair of touchdowns passes to win the game for the Texans. That would end up being the only win for Houston that year, as the team was eliminated by the Miami Dolphins the following week.
2017
In 2017, Simmons would not find the same success that he enjoyed during his rookie campaign. The Texans made some major scheme changes on offense that required the quarterback to double his pass attempts from the previous year. That, along with the early failures of Buzz Etcheverry, led to a miserable offensive performance for the team. The reliability and consistency that Simmons was known for wasn't able to handle the pressure put on his shoulders. In the end, Harold Simmons' sophomore season was a big step backwards.
2018
Simmons lost his starting job when the Texans selected Tommy Jones in the fourth round of the 2018 NFLHC Draft. The team felt that Jones was the future so Simmons found himself on the bench. After several rough outings for Jones, the team decided to give Simmons an opportunity to prove himself. The now third-year quarterback started the next two games and completed two-thirds of his passes, while totaling 510 yards along with 5 touchdowns to just 1 interception.
Traded to the Buffalo Bills
On the day of the 2018 NFL Trade Deadline, the Houston Texans sent Harold Simmons to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a fifth round pick from the upcoming Draft.
