Draft

The Atlanta Falcons drafted Fields with a late 4th round compensation pick. He was the 9th quarterback selected, after Aaron Kotar and Joshua Andrews.

Atlanta Falcons

Fields was the immediate starter for the Falcons after they lost Reggie Watkins in the 2015 NFLHC Expansion Draft. It was a rough start to his career, going 1-7 in the first 8 games but started to pull it together and went on a 6 game winning streak to finish the season at 7-7. This momentum carried into the 2016 season. The Falcons went 9-3 in the regular season and was the #1 seed in the NFC. The Falcons won Super Bowl III with Fields having a solid performance. The offense was led by rookie running back Akili Wallace and Fields was used more as a game manager, attempting less than 20 passes per game. In a controversial move, the Falcons traded Fields after winning the Super Bowl to the expansion Washington Redkins in a blockbuster trade that gave the Falcons the #2 pick, used on QB A.J. Jefferson and a 2nd round pick, used on OT Kelly Meier.

Washington Redskins

The trade was received positively by Redskins fans as they hoped Fields could lead them to the same success he saw in Atlanta. The Redskins used Fields very differently, allowing him to become a high volume passer instead of a game manager. Despite never taking the Redskins to the playoffs, they went 23-25 in the first three seasons and was competitive for the NFC East. Fields averaged over 4,000 yards and 30 TDs in these three seasons. However, in 2020, Fields began to struggle. He suffered a shoulder injury in the first week of the season but was able to return by week 3 but he never played the same. The Redskins would go 2-13-1 with Fields throwing 14 TDs and 14 INTs. The Redskins did not re-sign Fields after the season, instead selecting QB Tanner Bowman with the 2nd overall pick.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs signed Fields to a one year, $0.5 million deal as a "prove-it" contract. The Chiefs were marred by bad QB play by Erasmus McCready and Fields got his chance to play but did not impress, having a 57% completion percentage and 6 TDs to 5 INTs. The Chiefs did not re-sign him at the end of the season.

Las Vegas Raiders

Fields hit free agency again and signed a one year contract with the Raiders to be a backup to his draft classmate, Nick Hall. Fields got a chance to play in week 16 against rival Denver Broncos after Hall suffered a minor shoulder injury early in the game. Fields threw for 225 yards and a TD, leading to an important win for the Raiders. This would be Fields' last game as he retired at the end of the season.
