NFL Career
Lawrence Gibson's draft status was uncertain heading into the 2017 NFLHC Draft. If he was going to be picked, it would be in the later rounds. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Gibson with the 199th overall pick. That year, Gibson was given the starting tight end job. He had his best season to date.
In the 2018 offseason, the Steelers signed Jake Schmidt, another tight end. Since then, Schmidt has held the starting spot over Gibson. When asked if he's upset about losing the starting job, Gibson replied "Of course not! This is a team sport, and we need to do whatever it takes to win. I'm just focusing on doing my part for this team, and that's all I can really worry about."
