Matt Cowan (born May 5, 1993) is an American football cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League. He played college football at Wisconsin under Head Coach taffyowner. Cowan was the first ever pick for the Seahawks organization when he was taken with the 16th overall selection in the 2016 NFLHC Draft.
Early Years
Matt Cowan was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin and grew up 40 miles north in the small town of Lena. He attended Lena High School and played for the Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Titans. He was an outstanding 2-way athlete, playing both cornerback and wide receiver. His athleticism helped him become a 3-time Class 8 Man All-Team selection. Despite playing for such a small school, his performance at football camps led to him being noticed by major universities. With offers from Michigan State, Iowa, and Nebraska; Cowan decided to commit to his home school and attend the University of Wisconsin.
College Career
Cowan was a 2-year starter during his time at Wisconsin and helped lead the Badgers to a 22-5 record during that time. His most impressive season was his Junior season as he racked up 44 tackles and 5 interceptions, while the Badgers went 12-2 with a loss in the B1G Championship Game and a Citrus Bowl win against LSU.
