History

2013 Season

The 2013 season was the first in which the Gophers played. The Gophers finished the regular season with a 6-7 record and lost to Missouri in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

2014 Season

The 2014 season is the second in which the Golden Gophers played. Minnesota opened the season with an upset victory in Anthens, Georgia over the favored Bulldogs, 17-15. Minnesota won the next four games handily, setting up a mid-season Top 10 clash with Texas in Austin. Minnesota fought, and led deep into the 2nd half. But Texas prevailed 21-17. Wins over Purdue and Illinois followed the disappointment in Austin, setting up a top 15 showdown in Lincoln, Nebraska. Despite a solid effort from O.J. Carano, Nebraska was able to shut down the Gophers en route to a 16-10 home win. Following a loss at Northwestern and bye week, Minnesota again got on the winning track against Maryland and Iowa, retaining the Floyd of Rosedale trophy against the latter. In the regular season finale, Minnesota dropped a hard-fought game against the Badgers of Wisconsin, missing out on Paul Bunyan's Axe for the second year in a row. Minnesota finished the regular season at 8-4, good for a tie for 5th in the B1G. Minnesota beat Arizona State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on July 13, and finished ranked #11 in the Final Coaches Poll.

2015 Season

The 2015 season is currently underway. Minnesota opened with a resounding win against Arizona State, in a game played at Mile High Stadium in Denver. Following a win at Baylor, Minnesota put the screws to a visiting Boston College team that was ranked #24 at game time. Minnesota traveled to Provo, UT for a showdown with the BYU Cougars. The Cougars scored a late 2-point conversion to send the game to overtime, where an interception and quick touchdown handed the Gophers their first loss of the season.
