The Mountain West Conference is slated to begin play in the 2016 season. Due to the expansion of the AAC, it was decided to split up the east and west divisions into separate conferences. Aside from the AAC teams, 4 new teams were also added to the conference; North Texas, Wyoming, Utah State, and San Jose State. For the 2018 season, North Texas is moving to Conference USA, and UNLV Rebels will be joining the MWC.
