Coach TheTodd took over a historically bad Navy program in Week 3 of the 2017 season knowing full well the challenges that the coaching opportunity presented. Before taking over, Navy had been led sporadically by three different head coaches who amassed a 10-28 (.263) record. Before 2017, Navy had not recorded better than a 4-win season. In the historic 2017 season, Coach TheTodd led Navy to their first ever winning season, first bowl appearance and bowl win against Miami (FL) in the New Mexico Bowl. With his Week 3 win against rival Air Force in the 2018 season, TheTodd surpassed bbraff614 as the winningest coach in Navy history.
Dating back to the end of the 2017 season, the 2018 Navy Midshipmen won 8 straight games, another team record. Star running back Chris Bell finished 7th in Heisman voting in 2017 and won the 2017 Independents Offensive Player of the Year award. In the 2018 regular season, Navy again set a program record for most wins in a season at 9. The Midshipmen also captured their first ever Commander-in-Chief's trophy in 2018. With the 2018 Military Bowl victory, Navy notched their first 10 win season, and second straight winning season. They improved to 2-0 in bowl games under TheTodd.
