History

G-Aardvark era (2014-2014)

The G-Aardvark era was cut short after a disappointing 1-6 start to the 2014 campaign. His recruiting left much to be desired, and the teams performance was miserable.

Time era (2014-Present)

Time was brought in to replace G-Aardvark, finishing the 2014 record with a winning record and leading SMU to their first-ever conference victory over Colorado State. A solid 2015 season in the East Division of the AAC followed, with the Mustangs clinching a non-losing record and their first-ever bowl appearance, where they were promptly thrashed by the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The next two years showcased the faults of G-Aardvark's lackluster recruiting, with the team finishing 3-9 in both seasons. Thanks to Time's phenomenal recruiting in a loaded Texas region, however, the future of SMU was bright. The program would dip no lower than 8 wins a season in the following 4 season, with the Mustangs clinching their first-ever division title and, subsequently, their first conference title in 2019. While their bowl success hasn't been great in this span, (1-3 with the lone win coming over Toledo in 2019, the Mustangs continued amazing performances in the regular season have shown that the program will keep getting cracks at very solid bowl games in the coming years.
