Recruiting
Kerns was considered a low-floor, high-ceiling recruit on the offensive line due to his high intelligence but relatively limited athleticism.
College career
Kerns committed to Pitt due to coach Jumbo's promise that he would be a 4-year starter if he redshirted for 2016.
Kerns has started at center for Pitt for 4 consecutive seasons. He was named first team All-ACC in 2019 and graduated with his degree but decided to return for his redshirt senior year in an attempt to improve his NFL grade.
