Professional Career
Draft
With Gross' drop in production his senior season, he fell in the draft, ultimately being selected in the 6th round compensation picks by the Indianapolis Colts.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts only fielded two wide receivers on their roster in 2015, Gross and fellow rookie Andy Goode. Gross was the #1 wide receiver and led the team in receptions and receiving yards. In the 2016 draft, the Colts addressed the issue of wide receiver and selected Mosi Bartos and Rashad Simon which dropped Gross to #3 on the depth chart. After the season, his contract was not renewed and he became a free agent.
Tennessee Titans
Gross received a lot of interest in free agency with the expansion that brought in 8 new teams into the league. Gross received offers from the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, and Tennessee Titans. The Titans would beat the Cardinals for him on a 1 year, $5.9 million contract. Gross spent the 2017 season as the #2 WR for the Titans and was a decent player. The Titans looked to upgrade their WR corps in 2018 and brought in Cap Christian which bumped Gross down the depth chart. Gross got his chance again in the 2019 season after injuries to Tommy Furrey and Cap Christian but Gross did not impress and stayed buried in the depth chart after the emergence of Kevin Williams. The Titans made an offer to extend Gross' contract for another season but Gross decided to test free agency again.
Washington Redskins
Gross only received one offer in free agency this time and signed a 1 year, $0.5 million contract with the Washington Redskins. Gross was given another opportunity and was the #2 wide receiver on the depth chart behind rookie Sam Hiller-Weeden. Gross continued the problems he had with the Titans; lacking deep threat potential as he continued to have low yards per catch and struggled to find the endzone. The Redskins did not extend his contract.
Detroit Lions
Gross ended up in Detroit heading into the 2021 season. The Lions gave him a tryout during the pre-season but cut him before the regular season.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings picked up Gross for his final season in 2021. Gross started the season inactive but was able to contribute after several injuries forced him into the starting lineup. Gross suffered a mild concussion in the final game of his career. Gross decided to retire after this season.
