College Career

Walt was recruited in 2016 under coach Rome to Auburn, where he was the #7 QB on the depth chart. He served as the #2 QB on Auburn in 2017, backing up fellow sophomore Jacory Kessler. He transferred to Central Michigan for the 2018 season, where he became the starter under coach ImposterCauster. With a win over the Western Michigan Broncos in Week 16 of the 2018 season, Sutherland became the winningnest quarterback in school history.

Walt's 2018 Season was impressive enough to land him on the inaugural MAC Legends List.

Sutherland captured six more wins in the 2019 season, including a landmark win over the Iowa Hawkeyes. Walt finished the 2019 season with 2400 passing yards, down from the 2018 season, albeit in a more run-oriented offense this time around. Unfortunately, Sutherland could not capture the program's first bowl win, falling to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport.

Walt Sutherland finished his career at Central Michigan with 5,521 passing yards and a 60% completion percentage, tacking on 863 yards on 144 carries on the ground. With 12 wins, Sutherland is by far the winningnest quarterback in Chippewa history.
