The West Virginia-Baylor rivalry aka the "Country Roads Clash" is a rivalry between the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Baylor Bears of the Big 12 Conference. West Virginia leads the series 5-4.

Series History

This rivalry series isn't old. It's not historic at all. Rather, it's a series that began fruition once West Virginia was invited into the Big 12. The success of both teams year in and year out has been considered lopsided. In 2014, WVU recorded a 4-8 season, while Baylor went on to their first Big 12 Conference Championship. Since their first match-up in 2014, both teams have only won on the road.

In 2019, head coach smckenz3 became head coach of the Mountaineers. He often sang out the chorus to the John Denver song "Take Me Home, Country Roads"; and half the time, Baylor Head Coach TuscanSota would join him. It was after their 2019 match-up when TuscanSota agreed to sing out the song in the shoutbox, after suffering a humiliating defeat to the Mountaineers.

From 2020 and onward, both coaches agreed that whoever loses their annual matchup must upload a live recording of them singing "Take Me Home, Country Roads". With or without John Denver.
