College career

Holly was redshirted his first season on campus and then spent his freshman and sophomore seasons behind Nathan Taylor and Pat O'Connell. Heading into this junior season, Holly won the starting position over O'Connell. Holly impressed quickly as he became a favorite end zone target for quarterback Brad Davis. Behind their strong passing attack and solid defense, the Longhorns made it to the 2017 National Championship game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Texas won the game 34-19 as Holly had the biggest game of his career and was named MVP after having 6 receptions, 74 yards and 2 TDs.

In a surprising move, Will Holly decided to transfer away from the reigning champs to the newly formed UTEP Miners for his senior season. Holly had a quick start but UTEP decided to move to a run-focused offense centered around sophomore RB Justin Barksdale after 3 games. The Miners would only throw for a total of 8 TDs in 2018, only 2 to Holly.
