The 2013 Big 12 Championship Game was the Big 12's inaugural championship game. It was contested between the two top finishers in the regular season, the first-place and 10th-ranked Texas Longhorns and the second-place UCF Knights. The Longhorns got off to an early 21-0 lead and never looked back on its way to the Big 12 title and a Cotton Bowl appearance.

UCF
The UCF Knights made the championship game after a 1-5 start to the year, including a 70-7 loss to USC. They turned it around in conference play starting with a shutout win over Rice, followed by wins over TCU, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, and Texas Tech to clinch bowl eligibility. Their only in-conference losses all season were a pair of defeats at the hands of Boise State.
Texas
Texas made the Big 12 Championship Game behind the stellar play of runningback Sterling Brown, who finished the season 5th in the nation with 1601 rushing yards, tied for 6th in the nation with 19 rushing touchdowns, and hit the 100-yard mark in 7 games. He once again carried Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game, rushing 29 times for 209 yards and 3 first-half touchdowns that put the Longhorns up 28-3 by halftime, essentially putting the game away before it truly began.
