Rankings from Coaches Poll

The 2023 Central Michigan Chippewas represented Central Michigan University in the 2023 CFBHC Season. The team was coached by robcarlson77 and played its home games at Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. They were a member of the West division of the MAC.

The Chippewas season started slowly with losses to Oregon State and Michigan State. After the 0-2 start, the Chippewas reeled off four straight wins, including three wins against conference opponents, before the streak ended in a tough loss on the road to Minnesota in Week 9. The 24-19 loss would be the last one of the regular season as CMU would win their next five games, including a 31-20 win over arch rival Western Michigan. Both teams entered the contest at 7-0 in conference play. The victory over WMU snapped a four game losing streak to the Broncos and sealed CMU's first ever trip to the MAC Championship Game. The Chippewas would take on East Division Champion, Ohio in a rematch of an early season matchup. CMU would knock off the Bobcats for the second time in the season, winning the game 31-14 and clinching their first conference title.

After finishing the season 10-3 and ranked #24 in the Coaches Poll, CMU would draw a bowl matchup against San Diego State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. CMU's defense would struggle against a talented Aztec offense giving up 533 yards en route to a 35-28 defeat.
