This is a helper function for the main template to strip the citation and anything in parentheses from the ranking. Basically it just returns the first number or if that is empty the first string.
There is potential that if the bug in {{Str number/trim}} is fixed this ranking may cause an error: "RV (1)" as this would return 1 rather than RV.
