Draft
Austin was selected with the 130th overall pick in the 2021 NFLHC Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.
Los Angeles Chargers
Despite being a 5th round pick, Austin was competing for the starting position with Mamadou Heard immediately. After a strong rookie minicamp, Austin was leading the race. Austin started 15 games for the Chargers in his rookie season, missing one due to a hip bruise. He only scored 3 TDs and averaged 3.81 YPC but the Chargers are encouraged about his future, especially after Pro Football Focus wrote an article in which Austin was named the #1 RB in ability to gain yardage after first contact, right above names like Vaughan Abraham and Akili Wallace.
