Godfrey was not invited to the combine and was not expected to be drafted.
Professional career
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Godfrey signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent the season as a backup to Thomas Barry. He was not re-signed after the season.
Miami Dolphins
Godfrey spent the 2020 season as an unpaid assistant coach for his high school, Evangel Christian High School, after not being signed to a team. However, the Miami Dolphins gave him a chance to return in the 2021 season. He spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons off and on the practice squad for the Dolphins.
Chicago Bears
Towards the end of the 2022 season, Godfrey was signed off the Dolphins practice squad by the Chicago Bears where he was on the active roster as a backup linebacker. The Bears cut Godfrey before the 2023 preseason.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers signed Godfrey to a one year contract. Godfrey did not get substantial playing time and was cut midway through the season.
