Personal Life
Thomas Edward Reis was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and grew up in the nearby Memphis suburb of Horn Lake, Mississippi. Reis was a local baseball star, and didn't start playing football until his senior year of high school, after his pitching arm had required surgery and ended his prep baseball career. Reis had to sit the first three games due to being academically ineligible from his junior year spring semester, but dominated the sport once his suspension was up. Unfortunately, it was too late for major colleges to take notice of him, and his academics were lacking anyway.
College Career
Reis started his college life at Northwest Mississippi Community College, in the small town of Senatobia, Mississippi, half an hour south of his home town. A starter from day one, he became notable in the JuCo scene, and garnered interest from a few schools. He eventually transferred from Northwest to Alabama, to replace the Legend Tunch Richardson.
Reis exploded onto the scene once he got to Alabama, wracking up a 1st-Team All-SEC linebacker nomination in 2017. Despite stepping back in the stats column during his senior season, Reis helped the Tide win the National Championship Game, cementing his own place in Alabama legacy.
Reis was a Criminology & Criminal Justice major. "I didn't know what football would hold in store for me - if I'd even see the field in college, so I was planning to try to help out my local community back home in Memphis, or do something cool like work for the Secret Service. Now that I have NFL aspirations, I don't know if the Secret Service is for me. (laughs)" he said in an interview leading up to the 2018 National Championship game.
