Early Years
Thomas was born in Amory, Mississippi. He attended Hatley High School.
College Career
Thomas spent four years at Florida State, earning a Bachelor's degree in Finance. He spent his first few years as a backup tight end for the Seminoles.
2014 Season
It wasn't until 2014, his junior season, that he became the starting tight end for the ACC powerhouse. Thomas immediately established a connection with quarterback, Thomas Wheeler, totaling 750 yards receiving, which was good for 4th among tight ends in the nation. He also finished the year tied for 5th among all receivers in touchdown catches, with 11. Thomas helped the Seminoles make it all the way to the 2014 National Championship Game before falling to Alabama.
2015 Season
Thomas would see a decline in overall production in 2015. Thomas Wheeler graduated following the 2014 season and junior, Dick Cook would inherit the starting job the following year. Cook was a scrambling quarterback and in 2015, the team shifted its focus more towards running the ball. Thomas would see his numbers decline across the board. He finished the season with 347 yards and just 3 touchdowns.

2016 Season
Thomas became the starting tight end for the expansion 49ers going into the 2016 season. After a slow start, Thomas began to develop chemistry with starting quarterback, Todd Lester. In the Week 5 win against the New Orleans Saints, he scored his first career touchdown with 33 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. This would end up clinching the game and gave the 49ers their first win in franchise history.
Thomas would finish the season second on the team in receiving yards, with 371, and his 4 touchdowns would lead the team.
