In his redshirt freshman year, Austin was put directly into the starting line up, starting along side [[Will London]]. In week 1 against [[BYU]], Austin had his first two receptions for 20 yards. It wasn't until Week 9 against the eventual SEC Champions [[Florida]] that Austin caught his first touchdown pass, a 28 yard deep bomb from [[Julius Thomas]].
