D.J. Gibson (born April 12, 1996) is an American football tight end for the Miami Dolphins. He played college football at North Carolina. The Miami Dolphins selected him with the 56th overall pick in the 2018 NFLHC Draft.

Early Life

Gibson was born in Brooklyn, NY. Despite being heavily recruited as a three-sport star in high school, he chose to attend nearby Monroe College in the Bronx in order to help take care of his family. The Gibson family's fortunes stabilized shortly after and D.J. was free to transfer to the North Carolina Tarheels for his last two years of college football.

College Career

Gibson attended North Carolina after finishing his junior college career, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise and Sport Science.

Heading into the 2018 draft, Gibson was considered the top tight end prospect. His combine results solidified that with the top 40-yard dash and vertical in his position group. His 4.69 40-yard dash tied him for the all-time record for tight ends with Bernard Taylor.

Draft

Gibson was selected in the second round of the 2018 draft with the 56th overall pick, the second tight end drafted after Ohio State's Eugene Jackson who went 51st to the Minnesota Vikings. Gibson signed a 4 year, $11 million deal with the Dolphins shortly after the draft.
