Goodman gave strong consideration to his final two schools, Penn State and Maryland. After taking a visit to State College, Goodman chose the Nittany Lions.

Pre-draft
Goodman was a part of a strong class of outside linebackers in the 2018 NFLHC Draft. He was considered a definite 1st round talent with the potential to be selected in the first ten picks.

Draft
Goodman was selected with the 9th pick of the 2018 NFLHC Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He was the first outside linebacker taken. Later in the Draft, the Browns traded Goodman to the Minnesota Vikings for the 19th and 115th picks.
