The 2013 season is the first in which the Washington Huskies played. They finished 8-5 after defeating Syracuse Orange in the Hyundai Sun Bowl and narrowly missed the North Division title with a Week 12 loss against the rival Washington State Cougars.

After coach deandean1998 left for Boston College, the lure of coaching his hometown team was too much to resist for Jieret who arrived in Seattle after three successful years at Western Michigan.
